Lexington Legends 8 Savannah Sand Gnats 7


The final game of the five game series between the Lexington Legends and the Savannah Sand Gnats was played Saturday evening at Grayson Stadium. The Legends won the game 8-7 and won three games in the series.

The Legends scored three runs in the 4th on a triple by lfBryce Lane to score three runs. ssJiovanni Mier hit a solo home run in the 5th. dhChris Wallace continued his hot hitting going 3-fo-4 and scoring 2 runs.

In the first Savannah scored twice. lfRafael Fernandez led off the game with a triple and scored on a ground out. 3bAderline Rodriquez singled and would score on an error.
Gnats scored 2 runs in the 3rd. ssWilfredo Tovar walked and scored on a home run by A. Rodriquez(his first HR of the season).
In the 4th inning, cBlake Forsythe doubled and scored on a sac fly. The Gnats scored their final two runs in the 7th.

Savannah had 9 hits for the game. A. Rodriquez was 2-for-5 with a single, home run, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. A. Harris was 2-for-4.

Starting Sand Gnat pitcher Greg Peavey pitched 5 innings, gave up 6 runs on 9 hits, walked 3 and struck out 6. Reliever Luis Rojas took the loss.

The announced attendance was 2,779.

Lexington Legends 6 Savannah Sand Gnats 3


The fourth game of the five game series between the Lexington Legends and the Savannah Sand Gnats was played Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. The Legends won the game 6-3 to tie the series at 2-2.

The Legends scored 1 run in the 5th and 1 run in the 6th. They scored 4 runs in the 7th, highlited by a three run home run by cChris Wallace, who was 4-for5 for the game with a homer, 2 triples, a single and two runs scored.

Savannah scored 2 runs in the 3rd:2bWilfredo Tovar walked, cfRafael Fernandez walked and ssRobbie Shields reached first on an error to load the bases. Tovar scored on a ground out. lfCory Vaughn doubled to score Fernandez. Leading off the 9th, cBlake Forsythe singled and later scored on a sac fly by 1bSam Honeck.

2bWilfredo Tovar was 2-for2 for Savannah, with a double, single. 2 walks and 2 runs scored.


Savannah strating pitcher, Gonzalez Germen, pitched 5 innings, gave up 1 run on 5 hits and struck out 4. Reliever Chase Huchingson was charged with the loss. He pitched 4 innings, gave up 5 runs on 5 hits walked 2 and struck out 4.

The announced attendance was 1,853.

Sand Gnats 6 Lexington Legends 5


The 3rd game of the five game series between the Lexington Legends and the Savannah Sand Gnats was played Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won 6-5 and leads the series 2-1.

The Legends scored their first run in the 1st when dhChris Wallace hit a solo home run.

Savannah scored a run in the 5th and a run in the 6th. Down 4-2 going into the 8th inning, Savannah scored 4 runs. cAlbert Cordero reached first on an infield single. rfRaferal Fernandez singled. lfAlonso Harris singled to load the bases. Fernandez walked to score a run and then ssRobbie Shields walked to score a run. dhCory Vaughn doubled to score two runs to give Savannah a 6-4 lead.

R. Fernandez was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored.
A. Cordero was 2-for-4.
J. Rodriquez was 2-for3.
W. Tovar went 2-for3.
A. Harris was 2-for4.

Starting Savannah Sand Gnat pitcher Erik Goeddel pitched 5 innings, gave up 4 runs on 6 hits and struck out 5. Angel Cuan won the game in relief, pitched 3 scoreless innings, gave up 2 hits and struck out 2. Josh Edgin:pitched the 9th inning, gave up a run on 4 hits. With the bases loaded, Edgin struck out the final 2 Legends batters to earn his 4th save of the season.

Savannah Sand Gnats 5 Lexington Legends 4


The second game of the five game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won 5-4 to even the series at 1-1.

The Legends scored their first run in the 3rd inning. In the 4th, rfAdam Bailey hit a solo home run. cRoberto Pena hit a 2 run home run to left field in the 5th which gave the Legends a 4-1 lead.

Savannah rallied in the 5th scoring 4 runs. 2bLuis Nieves singled. ssRobbie Shields singled. The bases were loaded after a walk to rfJavier Rodriquez. A walk to cfCory Vaughn scored Nieves. 3bAderline Rodriquez doubled driving in 2 runs. cAlbert Cordero hit a sac fly to score Vaughn.

Aderline Rodriquez was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI's.
Robbie Shields was 2-for-4 with a double.
Cory Vaughn went 2-for-3 with a double and a RBI.

Gnats starting pitcher, Yohan Almonte pitched 6 innings giving up 4 runs on 6 hits and sruck out 3, won the game and is now (2-1). Josh Edgin got the save, his 3rd for the season.

Lexington Legends 2 Savannah Sand Gnats 0


The first game of the five game series between the Lexington Legends and the Savannah Sand Gnats was played Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. The Legends shut out Savannah and only allowed 3 hits.

Legends starter, Tanner Bushue (W, 3-0) walked 2, struck out 2, and gave up 2 hits in 6 innings of work.

Savannah starting pitcher, Ryan Fraser, (L, 0-2) pitched 6 innings gave up 2 runs(1 earned), walked 2, struck out 4, and allowed 4 hits. Reliever Taylor Whitenton pitched 3 scoreless innings, allowed 1 hit, walked 2, struck out 5.

cfCory Vaughn was 2-for-4 and dhRobbie Shields had a single.

The announced attendance was 1,048.

Greenville Drive 5 Savannah Sand Gnats 1


The Greenville Drive beat the Savannah Sand Gnats 5-1 Monday evening at Grayson Stadium. The Gnats won the series 3-1.

In the 3rd inning, Savannah scored their only run of the game:lfAlonso Harris singled and moved to second when ssRobbie Shields walked. A groundout by cfCory Vaughn score Harris.

Gnat 1b Sam Honeck continued his torrid hitting going 2-for-4 with a single and a double. He is hitting .500. 3bAderlin Rodriquez was 2-for-4 with a single and a double.

Starting Sand Gnat pitcher Greg Peavey(1-1) took the loss. He pitched 4 innings, gave up 2 runs on 7 hits and struck out 5.

The announced attendance was 2,170.

Savannah Sand Gnats 6 Greenville Drive 2


The Savannah Sand Gnats won their third straight home game against the Greenville Drive 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.

Gnats scored in the first when lfAlonso Harris reached first base on an error, stole second and scored on a double by 1bSam Honeck. Another outstanding performance by Honeck, going 3-3, two doubles, a home run, 3 runs driven in and is batting .500.

Savannah scored three runs in the 5th:2bLuis Nieves doubled and scored on a single by dhRobbie Shields. A home run by Honeck scored Shields.

The Gnats scored a run in the 7th and a run in the 8th.

Starting Sand Gnat pitcher Chase Huchingson pitched 4 innings, gave up 3 hits and struck out 7. Reliever Gonzales German picked up the win(1-1), pitched 3 innings, gave up 2 runs on 7 hits and struck out 7. Josh Edgin struck out two in 2 innings pitched.

Gnats 6 Drive 5 in 14 innings


The Savannah Sand Gnats beat the Greenville Drive 6-5 in 14 innings Saturday Evening at Grayson Stadium.

Greenville took a 1-0 lead in the 3rd when 1bMiles Head hit a solo home run.

Gnats rallied in the 5th scoring 4 runs. ssWilfredo Tovar led off the inning with a walk. lfAlonso Harris reached first base on an error. 1bSam Honeck doubled scoring Tovar and Harris. cfCory Vaughn doubled scoring Honeck. dh Albert Cordero double scored Vaughn.

In the 7th, ssRobbie Shields walked and stole second base and scored on a double by Honeck(3-6, 2doubles, 3RBI's).

Savannah won the game in the 14th inning-rfJavier Rodriquez doubled and scored on a double by Tovar.

Starting Sand Gnat pitcher Erik Goeddel pitched 3 innings, allowed 1 run, walked 4, and struck out six. Five Gnat relievers allowed 4 runs in 11 innings of work. Guillaume Leduc(1-0) pitched the final two innings, and picked up the win, allowed no runs, walked 2, and struck out 4.

Savannah Sand Gnats 4 Greenville Drive 3


Friday evening was opening night for the Savannah Sand Gnats and 4,313 fans attended the game at Grayson Stadium. The Gnats defeated the Greenville Drive 4-3 in an exciting game. Gnat reliever Josh Edgin earned the save in the 9th-he walked a batter to load the bases and struck out the final two hitters to preserve the win.

The Sand Gnats got off to a good start in the first as lead off hitter, lf Alfonso Harris hit a line drive for a home run over the left field fence. ssRobbie Shields drew a base on ball and cfCory Vaughn drove in Shields with a home run over the left field wall for a 3-0 lead.

In the 3rd inning, Harris led off the inning with a single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a sac fly by Shields.

Sand Gnat starting pitcher, Yohan Almonte, pitched six strong innings gave up only one run, allowed 4 hits and struck out 5. He improved his record to 1-1, 2.25.

Sand Gnats Opening Day Friday


Tomorrow night the Savannah Sand Gnats play their opening game at Grayson Stadium at 7:05 pm against the Greenville Drive. The Drive, an affillate of the Boston Red Sox, have a record of (5-2) thru Wednesday and they have scored lots of runs in their wins.

The Sand Gnats have another strong ball club this year and Savannah baseball fans need to come out to Grayson to watch exciting baseball.
