Rome 4 Savannah 3

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,469 fans Sunday afternoon. Rome won the game 4-3 and sweept the series.
Rome scored a run in the first inning, scored 2runs in the 6th, and their final run was scored in the 8th inning when William Beckwith hit a home run over the center field fence, his 14th homer of the year.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the 6th inning. Yucarybert De La Cruz and Brandon Brown both singled and both scored on a double by Gilbert Gomez. In the 9th inning Albert Cordero singled to score Gomez who singled.
Both Brown and Gomez went 2-for-4with a run scored.
Savannah starting pitcher, Camarena Marcos, was the loosing pitcher(7-6), pitched  6 innings, allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, 1BB, and struck out 3. Randy Fontanez pitched 2 innings allowed 1run on 3 hits, 0 BB, and struck out 3. Chasen Bradford retired 3 batters he faced in the 9 th inning.

Rome wins Double Header

The  Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves played a double header Saturday at Grayson Stadium. Rome won the first game 2-0 and won the second game 4-1.
In the first game Rome scored their two runs in the 5th inning. Elmer Reyes walked and scored on a home run over the left field fence by Ross Heffley, his 4th homer of the year.
Savannah had 4 hits for the game. Charlie Thurber went 2-for-3 and made two good catches in right field.
Loosing pitcher for Savannah, Yohan Almonte(0-2), pitched 5 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, 3BB, and struck out 3. Jared West, pitched 2innings, allowed 2 hit and struck out 1.

In the second game of the double header, the Sand Gnats took a 1-0 lead when they scored their only run of the game in the 3rd inning. Cole Frenzel led off the inning with a single, reached third 2 batters, later and scored on a sac fly. Frenzel was 2-for-3 with a run scored. The only other hit for Savannah was a single by Cam Maron.
Rome scored 4 runs in the 6th inning which was highlited by a line drive 3 run home  run over the left field fence by Robby Hefflinger, his 11th home run of the year.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis, took the loss(4-8), pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, 0BB, and struck out 8. Estarlin Morel  pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowed 2hits and struck out 2.
The final home game and final game of the series will be played Sunday afternoon starting at 2:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savvanah 6 Rome2

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,143 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. The game was delayed 40  minutes because of rain. Savannah out hit Rome 8-7 and won the game 6-2.
The Sand Gnats scored 3 runs in the first inning. Yucarybert De La Cruz led off with a single. Gilbert Gomez reached base on an error. Cam Maron hit a home run over the right field fence to give Savannah a 3-0 lead.
The Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the second and one run in the seventh inning.
De La Cruz was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored. Maron was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI's and one run scored.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Jimmy Fuller went 3 innings, allowed 2 runs on 3hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Winning pitcher Carlos Vasquez (6-2) pitched 4 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits and struck out 3. Chasen Bradford allowed 1 hit in the inning he pitched. Closer T. J. Chrism pitched the 9th inning and allowed 1 hit.
A double header is scheduled at 5:00 pm Saturday at Grayson Stadium.

Asheville 8 Savannah 7

The final game of the three game series between the Sanannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played in front of 1,265 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. It was a slugfest with Asheville  getting 17 hits and Savannah getting 13 hits-Asheville won 8-7 and swept the series.

Savannah got off to a great start in the first inning sending 8 batters to the plate. Yucarybert De La Cruz  led off with a single. Gilbert Gomez reached base on an error. Cam Maron walked to load the bases. A run scored on a sac fly by Dustin Lawley. Greg Pron hit a triple to score two runs. A single by Charley Thurber scored the 4th run in the inning.
Savannah scored  a run in the 2nd, 3rd, and 6th innings.
A controversial play occurred in the 3rd inning when Asheville rallied to score 5runs. Sam Mende hit a drive down the left field line into the Ashville bullpen which appeared to be a ground rule double, but Mende circled the bases and was given an inside the park home run. Savannah argued the call but the umpires ruled the play a home run.
For the Sand Gnats, De La Cruz was 3-for-6 with 3 runs scored. Thurber was 3-for-4 with 2RBI's.
Losing pitcher for Savannah, Domingo Tapia pitched 4 innings, allowed 7 runs(5 earned), on 10 hits, 0BB, and struck out 5. His record now is (6-4).
Thursday at 7:05 pm Savannah plays the Rome Braves in a 4 game series at Grayson Stadium.

Tourists 6 Sand Gnats 0

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played in front of 875 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Three Asheville pitchers allowed Savannanh only 2 hits for the game and The Tourists pounded out 11hits to win the game 6-0.
Winning pitcher for Asheville, Ben Alsup, pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowed the 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 2. He improved his record to 13-5.
Asheville scored a run in the 2nd inning when Will Swanner doubled and  scored on a single by David Kandilas. Asheville scored 3 runs in the 7th inning on 4hits-Swanner led off the inning with a home run over the left field fence his 15th homer of the year. In the 9th inning, Asheville scored 2 runs on 2doubles and 2singles.
Losing pitcher for Savannah was starter Marco Camarena who went 6 2/3 innings allowed 3 earned runs on 5hits, and struck out 5 and his record now is (7-5). Brandon Sage pitched 1 1/3 innings, allowed 1earned run on 2 hits, and struck out 3. T. J. Chrism worked the 9th inning, allowed 2 earned runs, on 4 hits, and struck out 2.
The final game of the series starts at 7:05pm Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium.

Asheville 5 Savannah 2

The first game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played in front of 997 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah got off to a fast start in the first inning sending 8 batters to the plate, but thr real damage was done with the first two batters. Brandon Brown singled followed by a home run by Matt Reynolds just inside the left field foul pole his 3rd home run of the season.
Asheville took a 3-2 lead in the 5th inning when Sam Mende hit a 3 run homer over the left field fence, his 10th homer of the year. The Tourists added 2 runs in the 9th to win the game 5-2.
Savannah had 5 hits for the game. Brown was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Alex Panteliodis pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 3 earned runs on 9 hits, 1BB, and struck out 6. He took the loss and is now(4-7). Carlos Vasquez pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed no runs and no hits, walked 2and struck out 3. Chasen Bradford pitched the 9th inning, allowed 2runs on 2hits and struck out 1.
Game two of the series will be played Tuesday evening starting at 7:05 pm. at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 8 Lexington 2

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played in front of 1,727 fans Wednesday  evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah collected 10 hits and won the game 8-2.
Sand Gnats got off to a quick start scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Matt Reynolds led off with a single. Cam Maron walked and a double by Brian Harrison scored two runs. A ground out scored Harrison.
Leading off the 3rd inning, Harrison hit a home run over the left field fence, his  4th home run of the season.
Sand Gnats had a big 8th inning when they scored 4  runs on 3 doubles and 3 singles.
Harrison had a 3-for-4 night with 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored.
Winning pitcher for Savannah , Marco Camarena, (7-4) pitched 5 innings, allowed 2 unearned runs, 3BB, and struck out 4 and gave up 4 hits. Randy Fontanez pitched 3 solid innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out the side in the 6th inning. Estarlin Morel pitched the 9th inning, walked 2 and struck out 1.

Lexington 10 Savannah1

The second game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played in front of 767 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadiums. Lexington won 10-1.
Starting Lexington pitcher, Mike Folynewicz  pitched 7 shutout innings, 1BB, allowed 4 hits and struck out 6. In the 2010 draft, he was drafted in the first round(19th over all). The 2012 Baseball America lists Folynewicz as the 9th best player in the Houstin Astros organization.
Savannah avoided the shutout by scoring a run in the 9th inning. Albert Cordero doubled and scored on a single by Charlie Thurber.
For the game, Savannah had 9 hits. Cam Maron was 2-for-3 and leads the team with the highest batting average at .305.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis lost(4-6), pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 7 runs on 10 hits, and struck out 5. Jared West, pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowed 3 runs on 2 hits, and walked 4.Brandon Sage, pitched 2 2/3 innings, allowed 1 hit, 2 BB, and struck out one.
The final game of the series will be played Wednesday evening atm7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 4 Lexington 3

The first game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played in front of 2,174 fans Monday evening. Savannah pitchers only allowed 4 hits but walked 8 batters(4 batters in a row were walked in the top of the 9th inning). Sand Gnats won 4-3.
Savannah scored in the 1st when Matt Reynolds walked, moved to second on a single by Gilbert Gomez and advanced to third on a ground out into a double play. Reynolds scored on a balk.
In the 3rd inning, Savannah scored 2 runs. Brandon Brown doubled, advanced to third on a fly out and scored on the second balk of the game. Gilbert Gomez singled, stole second, went to third on a single by Cam Maron, and scored on a sac fly.
The final Sand Gnat run was scored in the 5th inning. Brown singled, stole second, advanced to third on back to back walks and scored on a sac fly.
For the game, Brown was 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Michael Fulmer (won, 7-5) pitched 5 innings, allowed 1 run on 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Carlos Vasquez pitched 2 shutout innings, 1BB, and struck out 3. Chasen Bradford  pitched 1 inning, walked 3 and allowed 2 runs. Earning his 17th save, T. J. Chrism pitched the 9th inning, 1BB, and struck out 1.
Game two of the series will be played Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium starting at 7:05pm.

Sand Gnats Win Double Header

The first game of the double header between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played Friday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Greenville had a 2-0 lead and Savannah scored  2 runs in the 7 th inning to tie the game and scored a run in the 9 th to win the game 3-2.
Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the 7 th. Dustin Lawley doubled. Walks to Cole Frenzel and Greg Pron  loaded the bases. A single by Brandon Brown drove in 2 runs.
In the 9 th Savannah scored the winning run when Greg Pron doubled and scored on a throwing error on a ground out.
Savannah had 8 hits for the game:Cam Maron was 2- for-4 and Brown was 2- for-4.
Winning pitcher for Savannah was T. J. Chrism who is now(4-2), who pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out 1.
The first game started in the second inning as it was continued from the rain out game on Thursday.

The second game of the double header saw Savannah with 13 hits( 5 players had 2 hits each), win the 7 inning game 9-5.
In the 1 st inning Savannah sent 9 players to the plate, scored 3 runs on 5 hits, highlited by a 3- run home run by Frenzel. Sand Gnats added a run in the 3 rd inning. The final 5 runs for Savannah scored in the fourth inning when they had 5 hits.
Winning pitcher for Savannah was Chasen Bradford(4-5), who pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 hit and walked 1.
The announced attendance was 1,859.

Savannah 9 greenville 1

The savannah sand gnats and the greenville drive played the first game of their four game series in front of 723 fans wednesday evening at Grayson stadium. It was a pitching duel the first six innings and savannah led 2-1 at the end of 6. Hot sand gnats bats banged out 13 hits for the game and won 9-1.                                                                                                                                                                      The sand gnats got off to a fast start scoring in the first inning when Gilbert Gomez hit a triple and scored on a ground out. In the 4th inning savannah scored a run when Dustin lawley doubled and scored on A broken bat single by Greg pron. a home run by Brandon brown in the 7th scored 2 runs.       Savannah exploded for 5 runs in the 8th on 2 bb, 5 hits and a wild pitch.                                               Greg pron went 3-for-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI night. Gomez was 3- for-5 with 1 RBI and a run scored.                                                                                                                                                       Starting sand gnat pitcher, Alex panteloids threw strikes and got ahead of most of the hitters. He pitched 6 innings, allowed 1 earned run, on 7 hits, 0 bb, and struck out 7 . With the win he improved his record to 4-5. Carlos Vasquez was sharpe allowing 1 hit, striking out 2 . Closer Jared west pitched the 9th inning and struck out 1.                                                                                                         Game two of the series is Thursday at 7:05pm at Grayson.

Former Sand Gnat Stars for Houston

Enjoyed watching Justin Maxwell go 4-for-4 with 2 singles and 2 home runs to lead the Houston Astros to a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Braves Saturday evening. He also stole a base.
Maxwell made his debut with the Savannah Sand Gnats on April 29, 2006 and hit a three-run home run in his second at bat. The Sand Gnats were affiliated with the Washington Nationals at that time.
Maxwell's college career at the University of Maryland and his minor league career was marred by injuries.
Spectacular career night for Maxwell.

Greensboro 5 Savannah 2

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greensboro Grasshoppers was delayed one hour and twenty minutes Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Greensboro won the game 5-2.
Savannah scored a run in the 3rd inning. Yucarybert De La Cruz reached base on a fielders choice and would later score on a single by Gilbert Gomez. 
In the 6th inning, Savannah scored a run. Cam Maron led off the inning with a single and later scored on a groundout. For the game the Sand Gnats had 6 hits, Maron was 2-for-4 with a run scored and is now batting .296.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Jim Fuller pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed 4 earned runs on 5 hits, 2BB and struck out 5. Randy Fontanez pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up 1 run on 3 hits, 0BB, and struck out 1. Jared West, pitched 2 innings allowed 2 hits and struck out 2.
The announced attendance was 907.

Sand Gnats Split Double Header

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greensboro Grasshoppers played a double header Wednesday at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won the first game 5-2 and lost the second game 1-0.
In the second game, Savannah was shutout and collected 4 hits for the game. Starting Savannah pitcherAlex Panteliodis  was superb pitching 6 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, 1BB and struck out 7. He showed cat-like quickness fielding his position. Reliever Carlos Vasquez,(5-2)  took the loss, pitching 1 inning, gave up 1 run on 2 hits, 1BB, and struck out 1.

In the first game, Savannah scored 3 runs in the 4th inning. Matt Reynolds and Gilbert Gomez led off the innings with singles. Brian Harrison singled to drive in a run. A sac fly by Grey Pron drove in the second run. The final run of the inning scored on a single by Cole Frenzel. 
Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the 6th inning. Pron singled and advanced to third on a double by Frenzel. A single to right field by Albert Cordero scored a run. A sac fly by Yucarybert De La Cruz drove in a run. Starting Savannah pitcher, Michael Fulmer pitched 4 2/3 innings, gave up 2 runs on 8 hits, 2BB, and struck out 2. Brandon Sage (W,1-0) ) won the game pitched 1 1/3innings, gave up 1 hit and struck out 1. Chasen Bradford allowed 1 hit pitching the final inning to earn his 5th save of the season and his ERA is 1.93.

The announced attendance for the double header was 1,426.

Savannah 2 Greensboro 1

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greensboro Grasshoppers played their first game of the series Tuesday evening in front of 892 fans at Grayson Stadium. Fans saw great pitching.  Savannah rallied in the bottom of the 11th inning to win the game 2-1.
In the 4th inning, Sand Gnats scored their first run when cCam Maron, walked, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and scored on error on a ground ball. The winning run was scored in the 11th inning. cfGilbert Gomez walked and advanced to second on a sac bunt by Maron. 3bDustin Lawley singled to drive in the winning run.
The Grasshoppers scored their run in the first inning. 2bAustin Barnes doubled and scored on a double by cWilfredo Gimenez.
Reliable starting Savannah pitcher, Jacob DeGrom went 7 innings, allowed 1 run on 5 hits, 2BB, and struck out 5. Estarlin Morel pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 hit and struck out 1. T. J. Chism( who has 16 saves for the season) pitched  2 innings, allowed 2 hits and struck out 2. Winning pitcher, Chasen Bradford(3-4) pitched the final inning and struck out 2.
Tomorrow the Sand Gnats and the Grasshoppers will play a  double header starting  at 5:30 at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 4 Kannapolis 2

The final game of the four game series between the  Savannah Sand Gnats and the Kannapolis Intimidators was played in front of 2,014 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Both teams scored a run in the second inning and Savannah rallied to score 3 runs in the 8th inning.  Kannapolis added a run in their 9th inning, but fell short as the Sand Gnats won 4-2 and won 3 games out of 4 games played.
Savannah scored their run in the 2nd when Greg Pron singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A single by Charlie Thurber scored Pron.
In the 8th inning, Cam Maron and Dustin Lawley received walks and both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Greg Pron. An intentional walk was given to Cole Frenzel.  A single by Matt Reynolds scored 2 runs and a sac fly by Thurber scored a run.
Savannah starting pitcher Alex Panteliodis was outstanding, pitching 7 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 1BB, and struck out 9. Pitching the 8th inning, Randy Fontanez, allowed 1 hit, no runs and won the game to improve his record to (2-4). Closer T. J. Chism allowed 1 run on 1 hit, and struck out 1. Chism earned his 16 save of the season.j

Savannah 6 Kannapolis 2

Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Kannapolis Intimidators was played in front of 1,867 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Both teams collected 11 hits, but strong Savannah pitching shut out the Intimidators for 7 innings-they scored 2 runs in the 8th inning. Savannah won 6-2.
Players getting multiple hits for Savannah:Cole Frenzel was 3-for-3, with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, Dustin Lawley was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored, and Greg Pron went 2-for-4.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Michael Fulmer was superb, pitched 5 shut out innings, allowed 3 hits, 1BB, and struck out 8. Savannah 8 Kannapolis 1

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Kannapolis Intimidators was played in front of 812 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah pitchers allowed only 1 run and the Sand Gnats banged out 10 hits , 3 of which were home runs.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the 3rd when Gilbert Gomez singled and was followed by a home run over the right field fence by Cam Maron, his 4th homer of the year.
Leading off the 6th inning for Savannah, Dustin Lawley hit a home run over the left field fence, his 12th home run of the year.
Savannah rallied in the 7th inning to score 5 runs, high lighted  by Lawley's 3 run home run, a drive over the left field fence for home run number 13.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Jacob DeGrom,  was solid pitching 6 strong innings, allowed 1 run on 6 hits, 1BB and striking out 9. With the win, DeGrom is  now( 6-3).  Picking up his first save of the season, Carlos Vazquez, pitched 3 shutout innings, allowed 1 hit, 2BB, and struck out 3.
Game three of the four game series will be played Wednesday evening at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Kannapolis 6 Savannah 3

Game one of the four game series between the Kannapolis Intimidators and the Savannah Sand Gnats was played in front of 2,208 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium. Kannapolis scored 2 runs in the 5th, 3 runs in the 8th and 1 run in the 9th on  a Martin Medina home run, his 2nd of the season. Final score Kannapolis 6 Savannah 3.
Sand Gants scored a run in the 1st inning when Gilbert Gomez doubled and scored on a single by Dustin Lawley. In the 4th inning, Dustin Lawley hit a home run, his 11th of the season. The final Savannah run was scored in the 6th: Lawley walked, went to second on a ground out, moved to third on a balk, and scored on a sac fly to right field.
For the game, Savannah had 4 hits. Gomez was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Lawley was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Logan Verrett, pitched 7 innings, allowed 2 runs(both unearned) on 3 hits, and struck out 6. Randy Fontanez pitched 1 inning, gave up 3  runs, on 4 hits, and struck out 1. Jared    
West pitched the 9th inning, allowed 1 run on 2 hits.

Savannah 5 Rome 1

The fourth game of the four game series was played between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves in front of 914 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Both teams had 6 hits apiece and Savannah won the game 5-1 to even the series at 2-2.
Once again Savannah pitching was superb. Starter Domingo Tapia pitched 7 strong innings in the brutal afternoon heat and did not allow his only hit until the 7th, gave up 1 run(unearned), walked 2 and struck out 8. Reliver Marco Camarena pitched 1 inning, gave up 3 hits and struck out 1. Closer T. J. Chism allowed 2 hits in the 9th inning, walked 1 and struck out 2. With the win, Tapia improved his record to (5-2).
In the first inning, Savannah scored 3 runs. Gilbert Gomez was hit by a pitch, Dustin Lawley drew walk, and a hit by Grey Pron scored Gomez. A double by Cole Frenzel drove in two runs. Sand Gnats scored two more runs in the 5th inning.
Monday Savannah begins a four game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 7 Rome 0

The third game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 3,077 fans Saturday evening at Grayson Stadium. Strong Savannah pitching limited Rome to 2 hits for the game and Savannah won the game 7-0.
Starting Savannah pitcher Jimmy Fuller was stellar pitching 6 shut out innings and allowed only 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 4. His curve ball baffled the Rome hitters and he won the game and improved his record to (3-2).
For the game , Savannah collected 13 hits. Getting 2 hits each for the game:Gilbert Gomez, Cam Maron, Brian Harrison, and Charley Thurber. Almost getting the cycle, Dustin Lawley was 3-for-5, starting out with a triple, double and a single. His last at bat last night was a home run so he did have a cycle in the last  two games combined.
Allowing the second hit of the game for Rome, reliever Carlos Vasquez, was equally effective, pitching 2 innings and struck out 2. . Pitching the 9th inning, Chasen Bradford faced 3 batters and struck out 1.

Rome 3 Savannah 2

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,093 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Rome scored single  runs in the 1st, 5th, and 7th innings to win the game 3-2.
Savannah scored two runs in the 8th inning. Cam Maron reached first base on an error and scored when Dustin Lawley hit a line drive over the left field fence for a home run, his 10th of the season.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis, pitched 6 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, 1BB, and struck out 10, took the loss  and his record is now(3-5). Reliever Jared West pitched 2 innings, allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 1BB and struck out 4. Estarlin Morel faced 3 batters in the 9th and struck out 1.
Game three of the four game series will be played Saturday at 6:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Rome 2 Savannah 1

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,642 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Rome won the game 2-1 and their pitchers allowed Savannah 2 hits for the game.
Starting pitcher for Rome, Alex Wood, pitched a shutout allowing no hits for 4 innings, walked 1 and struck out 2.
Sand Gnat starting pitcher Michael Fulmer, pitched well for 6 innings, allowed 1 run(earned) on 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 7.
Savannah scored their run in the 5th inning. Greg Pron led off the inning with a double. Albert Cordero walked and Cole Frenzel was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pron scored on a ground out. Peter Moylan, who was pitching on a rehab assignment from the Atlanta Braves, pitched the 5th inning for Rome.
Losing pitcher for Savannah, Randy Fontanez(L, 1-3) pitched 3 innings, allowed 1 run on 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4.
Game two of the series will be played Friday evening at 7:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Edgin Joins Mets

It has been reported that former Savannah Sand Gnats pitcher, Josh Edgin, has been promoted from Buffalo(AAA) to the New York Mets Friday, July 13, 2012.
During the 2011 Sand Gnat Season, Edgin was outstanding, appeared in 24  games, pitched 31 innings, walked 10 and struck out 41. His record was 1-0 and his ERA was 0.87. When Edgin entered the game from the bull pen, he threw strikes and got hitters out.

Charleston 8 Savannah 4

The final game of the five game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RuverDogs was played Sunday afternoon in front of 805 fans at Grayson Stadium.
After 9 innings the score was 4-4 and Charleston rallied in the 13 inning scoring 4 runs to win the game 8-4.
In the Savannah 8th inning, Aderline Rodriquez hit a home run with a runner on base to tie the score at 4-4. It was the 16th home run for Rodriquez and his 3rd home run against Charleston in the five game series. The Sand Gnats had 6 hits for the game and Dustin Lawley was 3-for-5 with a double and 2 singles and a run scored.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Domingo Tapia, pitched 7 innings, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3. Carlos Vasquez pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings, gave up 2 hits, 1BB, and struck out 3. Chasen Bradford, pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings, 0BB, no walks or strikeouts. Losing pitcher, Jared West (1-2) pitched the final innings, allowed 4 runs(3 earned) 4 hits, 1BB and struck out 3.

Sand Gnats Split Double Header with Charleston

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs played a double header Saturday at Grayson Stadium. Charleston won the first game 9-7 and Savannah won the second game 1-0.
The second game was an exciting game as Savannah starting pitcher,Jimmy Fuller, was brilliant tossing a no hit shut out for 5 innings, striking out 4 and walking one batter. He improved his record to (2-1) with the win. Earning his 14th save of the season, T. J. Chism, was equally as impressive, pitched the final two innings, allowed 2 hits, 0BB and struck out 1. Savannah scored the winning run in the 4th inning when Cam Maron laid down a perfect bunt down the third base side for a hit and he scored when the next batter, Aderline Rorriquez with 2 strikes choked up on the bat and laced a double. Rodriquez was 2-for-3.
The first game saw Charleston score 9 runs on 12 hits, while Savannah scored 7 runs on 8 hits. For Charleston Dante Bichette, Jr. was 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. For Savannah Dustin Lawley hit his 9th home run of the season and Brian Harrison was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and drove in 2 runs. Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis pitched 3 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, walked 4 and struck out 1. Reliever Marco Camarena pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed 5 runs(4 earned)  on 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1. Loosing pitcher Randy Fontanez((1-2)  went 1 2/3 innings gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, 1BB, struck out 3.
The announced attendance was 2,028.

Savannah 1 Charleston 0

Game two of  the five game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 1,796 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Fans saw outstanding pitching and great defense from both teams. Both teams had 3 hits for the game. The RiverDogs turned 3 double plays and the Sand Gnats turned 2 double plays.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Aderline Rodriquez, led off the inning for Savannah and hit a line drive over the left field fence to win the game 1-0. It was his 15th home run for the season and he hit a home run in the first game of the series on July 4th.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Michael Fulmer was superb pitching 7 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits, 0BB, and struck out 4. Chasen Bradford pitched 2 shutout innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 1. Winning the game, T. J. Chism (2-2), pitched the 10th inning and struck out 2.
Saturday the Sand Gnats and RiverDogs play a double header starting at 5:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Charleston 3 Savannah 2

The Savannah Sand Gnats hosted the Charleston RiverDogs Wednesday July 4th in the first game of a five game series in front of a large crowd 4,180 fans at Grayson Stadium. The Sand Gnats hit two solo home runs and had good pitching,  but lost the game 3-2.
In the 3rd inning, Charleston collected 3 hits and capitalized  on an error to score 2 runs. They added a run in the 4th inning.
Savannah scored their first run in the 2nd inning on a solo home run over the left field fence by Aderline Rodriquez, his 14th homer of the year which leads the team. In the 5th inning, Cam Maron hit a towering blast over the right center field fence, his 3rd home run this season.
Savannah starting pitcher, Jacob DeGrom, took the loss(3-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 6 hits, gave up 3 runs(2 earned), 0BB, and struck out 6. Reliever  Randy Fontanez, pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits, 1BB and struck out 3.
Game two of  the series will be played Thursday evening starting  at 7:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Augusta 2 Savannah 1

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 1,383 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Augusta collected 13 hits and won the game 2-1. Savannah collected 3 hits and won 1 game of the 4 game series.
The GreenJackets scored 1 run in the 2nd inning and scored their final run in the 4th inning.
Sand Gnats scored their  only run in the 7th inning. Dustin Lawley walked and advanced to second  on a single by Aderline Rodriquez. Lawley scored on a single by Greg Pron.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Jim Fuller(0-1) took the loss, pitched 3 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, and struck out 2. The bullpen shut out the GreenJackets the final 6 innings. Randy Fontanez pitched 3 innings, gave up 3 hits and struck out 6. Jared West pitched 2 innings, allowed 4 hits and struck out 2. Chasen Bradsford pitched the final inning and gave up 1 hit and struck out 1.

Augusta 1 Savannah 0

The third game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 2,832 fans Saturday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw a great pitching match-up. Augusta starter, Klye Crick(W, 3-4) pitched 6 innings, allowed only 2 hits, no runs, 4 base on balls, and struck out 8. Savannah starter, Michael Fulmer, (L, 4-4) had similar stats but lost the game, pitched 6 innings, gave up 1 run on 2 hits, walked 3, and struck out 8.
The GreenJackets scored the only run of the game in the first inning when Shawn Payne drew a base on ball and scored when the next batter, Ben Thomas doubled.
Savannah relievers shut out Augusta the final 3 innings. Carlos Vasquez, struck out 3 in the two innings he pitched. Jeremy Gould allowed 1 hit pitching the 9th inning.
The final game of the 4 game series will be played Sunday at 2:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 5 Augusta 1

The second game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 2,822 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won the game 5-1.
Savannah got off to a fast start scoring 3 runs in the first inning getting a double, and a single, help from one error,  and three base on balls.
In the second inning, Savannah scored a run thanks to two walks and a RBI  single by Cam Maron.
The final Sand Gnat run was scored in the   6th inning: Yucarybert De La Cruz singled followed by doubles  by Gilbert Gomez and Brandon Brown driving in De La Cruz.
Savannah had multiple hits from Gomez who was 2-for-4, 1 run scored and 1RBI, De La Cruz went 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored, and Dustin Lawley was 2-for-3.
Savannah starting pitcher, Jacob DeGrom, won the game to improve his record to 3-1, pitched 6 innings, allowed 1 earned run on 8 hits, walked 1 and struck out 5. Chasen Bradford, pitched 2 innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 2. Closer T. J. Chism, pitched the 9th inning, struck out 1, allowed 1 hit and a double play ended the game.

GreenJackets 9 Sand Gnats 8

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets played the first game of a four game series in front of 3,365 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah rallied for 4 runs in the 9th inning, but lost the game to Augusta 9-8.
Augusta scored 4 runs in the 4th inning on 2 hits, 2 errors, and two wild pitches.
In the 4th inning, the Sand Gnats scored 4 runs. Gilbert Gomez doubled and scored on a double by Cam Maron. A double by Aderline Rodriquez scored a run. Brian Harrison singled to drive in a run. The final run in the inning scored when Charlie Thurber doubled.
The GreenJackets scored a run in the 6th and 4 runs in the 8th inning.
In the 9th inning, Savannah sent 8 players to the plate, collecting 5 hits and scored 4 runs.
Leading hitters for Savannah: Gomez was 2-for-4, 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Rodriquez was 2-for-5 with 3RBI's and a run scored. Harrison went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and a run scored. Thurber was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI. Yucarybert De La Cruz was 2-for4 with 1 run scored.
Starting Savannah pitcher Logan Verrett took the loss and is now (2-1), pitched 5 innings, allowed 4 runs(1 earned), on 6 hits, walk 1 and struck out 6. Sand Gnats Win Double Header from RiverDogs

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs finished a suspended game played Wednesday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. The game was a continuation of the June 10th game where Savannah was leading 1-0 in the bottom of the 4th, with Charleston batting with 1 out and 2 runners on base.
Savannah won the game 3-1.
In the 7th inning, the Sand Gnats scored 2 runs. T. J. Rivera singled and scored on a triple by Travis Taijeron. Brian Harrison singled to score Taijeron.
Rivera was 3-for-5 with 1 RBI. Harrison was 3-for-5 with a run scored.
Winning Savannah pitcher, Randy Fontanez pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed 2 hits, no runs, 2BB and 2 strike outs. Chasen Bradford pitched 1 inning and allowed 1 hit. Closer, Jeffery Walters, earned his second save of the season, pitching the 9th inning, allowed 1 hit and struck out 3.

The second game of the double header saw Savannah win 3-2.
Sand Gnats scored a run in the first inning when Cam Maron singled and scored on a double by T. J. Rivera. Savannah scored a run in the 2nd inning:Brian Harrison walked and scored on a triple by Charlie Thurber, giving Savannah a 2-0 lead.
Charleston scored a run in the 3rd inning and scored their second run in the 6th on a solo home run by catcher Gary Sanchez.
Savannah scored a run in the 5th inning. Greg Pron singled and went to second on a sac bunt, and scored on a single by Cam Maron.
Rivera was 3-for-3 with 1 RBI. Maron was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and a run scored.

Sand Gnats/Tourists Split Double Header

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists played a double header Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Asheville won the first game shutting out Savannah 2-0 and limited the Sand Gnats to 3 hits in the first seven inning game.
The Tourists scored their runs in the second inning. 2bTaylor Featherston walked which was followed by a Home Run by lfBrian Humphries.
Sand Gnat catcher Cam Maron was 2-for-3 for the first game.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Rafael Montero, took the loss and is now (5-3)-he pitched 6 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, 1BB and 4 strike outs.

The second game of the double header saw Savannah rally scoring 2 runs in the 4th and 2 runs in the 5th to beat the Tourists 5-4 and to win two games of the three game series.
Savannah scored their first run in the 3rd inning when Charlie Thurber hit a triple and scored on a groundout.
T. J. Rivera singled in the 4th for Savannah and scored on a double by Travis Taijeron. A double by Brian Harrison scored Taijeron.
Sand Gnats scored their final 2 runs in the 5th inning. cAlbert Cordero was hit by a pitch and scored on a home run over the left field fence by 3bBrandon Brown(his second home run of the year).
Multiple hits for Savannah:Thurber was 2-for-3. Taijeron was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI.
Michael Fulmer,won the game to improve his record to(3-3), pitched 5 innings, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, 2BB and struck out 4. Carlos Vasquez, pitched 1 inning and walked two. T. J. Chism allowed 1hit in one inning he worked and earned his 10 save of the season.

Savannah 8 Asheville 1

The first game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played in front of 1,033 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah used outstanding pitching, played good defense and banged out 13 hits to win the first game 8-1.
Savannah scored the first run of the game in the first inning. T.J. Rivera doubled and scored on a double by Dustin Lawley. 
In the 4th inning, Sand Gnats scored 2 runs. Dustin Lawley  led off with a single and stole second base(#7) and score on a double by Brian Harrison. A single by Albert Cordero scored Harrison.
The 6th inning, Harrison led off with a single followed by a single by Charley Thurber. Greg Pron singled driving in a run and a single by Rivera scored a run.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 8th inning. Pron singled. Brandon Brown was hit by a pitch. Rivera doubled to score 2 runs. A sac fly scored Rivera.
Sand Gnats with multiple hits: Rivera was 3-for-5, 2 runs scored and 3RBI's. Lawley went 3-for-5, 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Harrison was 2-for-4, 2runs scored and 1 RBI. Thurber was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Pron was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
Starting Savannah pitcher Logan Verrett, coming off the DL, made his 4th start of the year and last pitched April 17, was outstanding pitching 6 1/3 innings. He did not give up a hit until the 6th inning when David Kandilas laid down a bunt for a single. Verrett allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 1BB and struck out 4. Winning the game, he is now(1-0) with an ERA of 2.33.
The bull pen did not allow a hit or a run. Marco Camarena pitched 1 2/3 innings and struck out 3. Pitching the 9th inning, Jeffrey Walters struck out 1 batter.

Greensboro 8 Savannah 6

The fourth game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greensboro Grasshoppers was played in front of 1,456 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Although Savannah hit four home runs for the game, Greensboro won the game 8-6 to even the series at 2-2.
For the game, the Grasshoppers had 14 hits, scoring 2 runs in the second inning, 4runs in the fourth inning, and 1 run in the 6th and 8th innings.
Savannah scored their first run in the 5th inning when 2b Brandon Brown led off the inning by hitting a line drive over the left field fence, his first homer of the year.
In the 7th inning, the Sand Gnats scored 3 runs. T. J. Rivera reached base on a throwing error and scored when Travis Taijeron hit a drive over the 400 ft. fence in center field for his 11th home run of the season which leads the team. Batting next 3b Aderline Rodriquez hit a home run over the left field fence, his 10th of the season-last night he hit a home run.
In the 9th inning, Rodriquez singled and scored on a home run by Brian Harrison over the left field fence, his 3rd home run this season.
Sand Gnats with multiple hits: Rodriquez was 4-for-5, HR, 2runs scored and 1 RBI. Harrison was 2-for-4 double, HR and 2 RBI's. Charlie  Thurber went 3-for-5 with a double.

The third game of the four  game series between the Savannah  Sand Gnats and the Greensboro Grasshoppers was played in front of  2,639 fans Saturday at Grayson Stadium.
Both teams  hit a home run and Savannah won the game 2-1. For the third consecutive game, pitching was noteworthy.
Savannah took a 1-0 lead in the 6th inning when 3b Aderline Rodriquez hit a home run over the left field fence, his 9th home run this season.
In the 7th inning, Greensboro tied the game when 1b Ryan Rieger hit a towering drive over the right field fence.
Sand Gnats took a 2-1 lead in the 7th inning. 2b Brandon Brown doubled and scored on a single by DH Cam Maron.
Starting Sand Gnat pitcher Jacob DeGrom pitched 6 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, 1BB, struck out 5 and lowered his ERA to 1.48. Marcos  Camarena won the game and improved his record to (4-1) pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 earned run giving up 2 hits. Chasen Bradford pitched 2 /3 innings, allowed 1 hit, 1BB and 1 strike out. Earning his 9th save of the season, T. J. Chism pitched 1 1/3 innings, walking one batter.

Savannah 2 Greensboro 0

The second game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greensboro Grasshoppers  was played in front of 2,109 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah reversed the score from last night and beat Greensboro 2-0. Just like last evening, fans saw outstanding pitching.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Rafael Montero, was stellar pitching 8 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, 0BB and struck out 6. Winning the game improved his record to 5-2 and he now has an ERA of 2.43.
Sand Gnats scored both of their runs in the 6th inning. Cole Frenzel walked. Brandon Brown singles and Frenzel moves to third on a throwing error and scores on a single by Cam Maron. A sac bunt advances both runners and Brown scores on a ground out into a force out.
Multiple hits for Savannah: Maron was 3-for-4 with three singles and one RBI. Brown was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Pitching the 9th inning for Savannah, Jeffery Walters got three outs to get his first save of the season.

Greensboro 2 Savannah 0

The first game of the four  game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greensboro Grasshoppers was played in front of 2,255 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium with Greensboro winning the game 2-0.
Fans saw good pitching from both teams. The Grasshoppers had 6 hits while the Sand Gnats collected 4 hits.
Starting pitcher for Greensboro Jose Fernandez was masterful pitching 6 shutout innings, allowed only 2 hits, walked 2 and struck out 8 to improve his record to (6-0) and lower his ERA to 1.50. Fernandez was a number 1 round draft pick in 2011 and is listed as the 3rd best prospect in the Miami Marlins organization by the Baseball America Prospect Handbook 2012.
In the 4th inning, the Grasshoppers scored their first run. Brent Keys laid down a drag bunt between the pitcher and first for a single, and stole second, moved to third on a single by Josh Adams, and scored on a sac fly. The Hoppers scored another run in the 9th inning.
For Savannah, T. J. Rivera was 2-for-3 with a single and a double.
Starting Savannah pitcher,Michael Fulmer (lost, 2-3) pitched 5 innings, allowed 1 earned run, 4 hits, 2BB, and struck out 5. Savannah 6 Charleston 3

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 2,083 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won the game 6-3 and took two out of three games for the series. For the first time in the series, the Sand Gnats outhit the RiverDogs 12-7.
Charleston scored 2 runs in the first inning and Savannah answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the first.
Gilbert Gomez singled. T. J. Rivera walked. Dustin Lawley singled to load the bases. A double by Aderline Rodriquez drove in two runs. Rodriquez scored on a groundout.
Savannah  added a run in the 2nd inning.
In the 4th inning three consecutive singles by Brian Harrison, Charlie Thurber, and Albert Cordero loaded the bases. A ground out into a double play scored Harrison. A single by Gomez drives in a run.
Sand Gnats with multiple hits: Gomez was 3-for-4 with a run scored, and 2 RBI's. Thurber was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Rodriquez, with 2 doubles, was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's.

Savannah 5 Charleston 3

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 1,100 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
After 7 innings, Charleston led 3-2. In the 8th inning, Savannah scored 3 runs to take the lead and win the second game of the series 5-3. Once again the RiverDogs outhit  the Sand Gnats 12-7.
Savannah scored a run in the 2nd inning when Charlie Thurber doubled, went to third on a fielding error, and scored on a wild pitch.
Savannah scored a run in the 4th inning. T. J. Rivera doubled and scored on a single by Aderline Rodriquez.
Sand Gnats scored 3 runs in the 8th inning. Rivera walked and was awarded second base on a balk, and scored on a single by Brian Harrison. A triple to right field by Thurber scored 2 runs.
Starting Sand Gnat pitcher, Alex Panteliodis pitched 4 shutout innings, gave up 5hits, 3BB, struck out 1. Randy Fontanez pitched 2 innings, gave up 3 runs on 6 hits, struck out 3. Winning pitcher, Chasen Bradford (1-0) pitched 2 innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 2. Earning his 6th save of the season, T. J. Chism pitched the 9th inning and struck out 2.
The final game of the three game series will be played Wednesday evening at 7:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Charleston 5 Savannah 3

The first game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 1,998 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium.
With the score tied 3-3 after nine innings, Charleston scored 2 runs in the 11th inning to win the first game of the series 5-3. The RiverDogs out hit the Sand Gnats 13-6.
Charleston scored 1 run in the first inning. Savannah scored 2 runs in the first. T. J. Rivera singled, stole second and scored on a double by Dustin Lawley. A single by Brian Harrison scored  Lawley.
Savannah scored their final run in the 2nd inning. Greg Pron singled, went to second on a fielders choice, stole third, and scored on a sac fly.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Jacob DeGrom, pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 3 runs(2 earned) on 6 hits, 1BB and struck out 6. Marcos Camarena pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowed 2 hits and struck out 1. Losing pitcher Jeffrey Walters, (3-1) pitched 2 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits and struck out 4.

Savannah 5 Augusta 3

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 895 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. 
Sand Gnats held on to win the game 5-3 and split the series at 2-2.
Savannah pitching was outstanding for 8 innings of shutout baseball and allowing only 1 hit. In the 9th, Augusta first two batters walked, followed by a hit batter to load the bases. Two singles scored 3 runs for the GreenJackets.
Savannah scored their first run in the 2nd inning: Dustin Lawley walked and scored on a double by Brian Harrison. Leading off the 6th inning, Lawley hit a home run over the 400 ft. center field fence. Travis Taijeron tripled and scored on a double by Aderline Rodriquez.  In the 7th, Savannah scored their final two runs when Cam Maron reached base on a throwing error and scored on a home run by T. J. Rivera (6th of the season).
Having another multiple hit game for the Sand Gnats, Harrison was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI. Last night he went 3-for-3.
Fans saw an outstanding performance by Savannah starting pitcher, Rafael Montero, pitched 6 shutout innings, allowed only 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 5. Winning the game improved his record to 3-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.64. Jared West  pitched 2 innings and walked 2. Making his debut for Savannah, Randy Fontanez, pitched 1/3 inning, allowed 3 runs on 1 hit, walked 2. Picking up his 5th save of the season, T. J. Chism, pitched 2/3 inning, struck out 1 and allowed 1 hit.
The Charleston RiverDogs are in town for a three game series with the first game Monday evening at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 7 Augusta 4

The third game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 2,952  fans Saturday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Four Savannah pitchers limited the GreenJackets to only 3 hits for the game to help Savannah win the first game of the series 7-4.
Augusta scored their 4 runs in the 1st inning. A walk and a throwing error by the pitcher allowed the first run to score. With 2 runners on base, Augusta DH Mark Minicozzi hit a home run over the left field fence.
Savannah scored three runs in the first inning. Two walks and a double by Aderline Rodriquez scored a run. A single by Brian Harrison drove in two runs. With 2 men on base in the 4th inning, Luis Nieves tripled driving in two runs. The final two runs for Savannah were scored in the 7th inning, when Harrison doubled to drive in both runs.
Leading hitter for Savannah: Harrison was 3-for-3, scored a run, and drove in 4 runs.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Michael Fulmer pitched 2 innings, allowed 4 runs(3 earned), 2 hits, 3BB and 1 strike out. Carlos Vasquez pitched 4 innings and allowed 1 hit and struck out four-he was the winning pitcher and his record now is 4-1. Chasen Bradford pitched 2 innings walked 2 and struck out 4. Picking up his 4th save of the season, T. J. Chism pitched the 9th inning and struck out 1.
The final game of the four game series will be played Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Augusta 4 Savannah 3

The second game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 2,345 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Augusta scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning, 1 run in the 6th and their final run in the 9th to beat Savannah 4-3. The Sand Gnats rallied in the 8th and 9th innings for an exciting finish.

Savannah scored their first run in the 6th inning:Travis Taijeron walked and scored on a double by Brian Harrison.
In the 8th inning with 2 outs, Aderline Rodriquez worked the count to 3-2, then hit a line drive over the left field fence to pull Savannah within 1 run.
Savannah scored in the 9th when Charley Thurber tripled and scored on a ground out.
Getting multiple hits for the Sand Gnats: Thurber went 2-for-4 with a double and a triple and 1 run scored. Rodriquez was 2-for-4 with a single, a homer and 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
Starting pitcher for Savannah Tyler Pill pitched 6 innings, allowed 3 runs on 8 hits, 0BB, struck out 5.
Jeffrey Walters pitched the final 3 innings, allowed 1 run(unearned) on 2 hits and struck out 1.
Game 3 of the 4 game series will be played Saturday evening at 6:05pm at Grayson Stadium.




Augusta 3 Savannah 2

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played Thursday evening in front of 1,849 fans at Grayson Stadium.
Augusta scored 2 runs in the 1st inning, added a run in the 4th inning, and held on to win the game 3-2.
Fans got to see lots of strikeouts: Augusta pitchers struck out 14 Sand Gnats and Savannah pitchers struck out 15 GreenJackets.
Savannah scored their first run in the 3rd inning. Luis Nieves singled and went to second on a fielders choice. Dustin Lawley singled moving the runner to third. A single by Travis Taijeron scored the Gnats first run.
The second Savannah run was scored in the 4th inning. Brian Harrison singled and scored when Greg Pron hit a triple.
Multiple hits for Savannah: Harrison was 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Domingo Tapia took the loss(L,3-2) pitched 4 innings, allowed 3 runs, on 5 hits, walked 2, struck out 5. Marco Camarena pitched 1 inning, gave up 1 hit and then struck out the side. Jack Leathersich pitched 3 shutout innings, no hits and struck out 6. T. J. Chism struck out 1 batter pitching the 9th inning.

Savannah Sand Gnats 6 Lakewood BlueClaws 1

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lakewood BlueClaws was played in front of 879 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 runs in the 8th inning to defeat Lakewood 6-1 and to win three games out of  the four game series.

Sand Gnats scored 4 runs in the 2nd inning. Travis Taijeron singled to center field. Brian Harrison hit a double. A single by Luis Nieves scored a run. Tillman Pugh singled to drive in a run. Brandon Brown drove in a run with a single. Pugh scored on a groundout.

The final two runs were scored in the 8th inning. Taijeron doubled and scored on a home run by Harrison, his second home run of the season.

Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis, pitched 4 innings, allowed 1 run on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Winning pitcher, Jeffrey Walters (2-0) pitched 2 shutout innings and struck out 3. Jack Leatersich pitched 2 innings and struck out 1. Estarlin Morel struck out one batter pitching in the 9th inning.

Savannah Sand Gnats 5 Lakewood BlueClaws 0

The third game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lakewood BlueClaws was played in front of 1,379 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium.

Outstanding Savannah pitching and timely hitting saw the Sand Gnats beat the BlueClaws 5-0.

According to the Savannah Sand Gnat Roster, starting Savannah pitcher, Jacob DeGrom, was transferred the day of the game(5-7-12) from Extended Spring Training to Savannah. He was brilliant, pitching  6 2/3 shutout innings allowing only 1 hit by 3b  Maikel Franco, a double in the 5th inning. DeGrom had great control, a good curve ball, kept the ball low, threw strikes, did not walk a batter, and struck out 7. He had a low pitch count.

Sand Gnats scored 4 runs in the 7th inning. After 3 consecutively Sand Gnats batters were walked to load the bases, Albert Cordero doubled down the right field line to drive in two runs. Luis Nieves followed with a single to drive in two runs-Nieves was 3-for-3 for the game.

The final Savannah run was scored in the 8th inning, when Brian Harrison doubled to drive in a run.

Pitching the final 2 1/3 shutout innings, Carlos Vasquez, struck out 2 to win the game and improve  his record to (3-1). He lowered his ERA to 2.53.

The final game of the four game series will be played Tuesday evening at 7:05 at Grayson Stadium.

Lakewood Blueclaws 4 Savannah Sand gnats 0

The second game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lakewood BlueClaws was played in front of 1,305 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.

Lakewood shut out Savannah and their 4 pitchers only allowed 4 hits, two hits were by T. J. Rivera who raised his batting average to .368.

In the 5th inning, the BlueClaws scored 2 runs on a walk and 3 hits. Their final 2 runs were scored in the 6th inning on 2 run home run over the left field fence by Aaron Altherr (2 HR this season).

Play of the game: Leading off the 2nd inning for Lakewood, catcher Bob Stumpo hit a triple. the next batter, Aaron Altherr hit a fly ball into right field. Gnat second baseman, Brandon Brown caught the ball in right field with his back to the infield, turned and threw a perfect throw to Savannah catcher Albert Cordero who tagged out Stumpo who tagged up on the fly ball.

The switch hitting,  6'-4" Stumpo had 2 hits for the contest and improved his average to .500.

Starting Savannah pitcher, Rafael Montero, (L,2-2) pitched 5 innings, allowed 2 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits, 2BB, and 3 strikeouts. Chasen Bradford pitched 3 innings, allowed 2 runs(both earned) on 4 hits, 1BB and 1 K. Pitching the 9th inning, Jared West, allowed 1 hit.

Game three of the four game series will be played Monday evening at 7:05 PM at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah Sand Gnats 5 Lakewood Blueclaws 3

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lakewood Blueclaws was played in front of 2,481 fans Saturday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah pitchers allowed only 5 hits and gave up 3 runs (all unearned) to win the first game 5-3. Lakewood scored 3 unearned runs in the 8th on a hit, 2 errors, and a  catchers interference call.

Savannah scored in the 3rd inning. Brandon Brown and Cam Maron singled, followed by a walk to T. J. Rivera to load the bases. Brown scores on a sac fly.


In the 5th inning, Brown singles, and with the bases loaded Travis Taijeron drives in two runs with a single. Savannah scored a single run in the 6th and a run in the 8th inning.


Leading hitter for Savannah was Taijeron who was 3-for-4, 2 RBI's and improved his batting average to .323.
