The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 895 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Sand Gnats held on to win the game 5-3 and split the series at 2-2.
Savannah pitching was outstanding for 8 innings of shutout baseball and allowing only 1 hit. In the 9th, Augusta first two batters walked, followed by a hit batter to load the bases. Two singles scored 3 runs for the GreenJackets.
Savannah scored their first run in the 2nd inning: Dustin Lawley walked and scored on a double by Brian Harrison. Leading off the 6th inning, Lawley hit a home run over the 400 ft. center field fence. Travis Taijeron tripled and scored on a double by Aderline Rodriquez. In the 7th, Savannah scored their final two runs when Cam Maron reached base on a throwing error and scored on a home run by T. J. Rivera (6th of the season).
Having another multiple hit game for the Sand Gnats, Harrison was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI. Last night he went 3-for-3.
Fans saw an outstanding performance by Savannah starting pitcher, Rafael Montero, pitched 6 shutout innings, allowed only 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 5. Winning the game improved his record to 3-2 and lowered his ERA to 2.64. Jared West pitched 2 innings and walked 2. Making his debut for Savannah, Randy Fontanez, pitched 1/3 inning, allowed 3 runs on 1 hit, walked 2. Picking up his 5th save of the season, T. J. Chism, pitched 2/3 inning, struck out 1 and allowed 1 hit.
The Charleston RiverDogs are in town for a three game series with the first game Monday evening at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.
