Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Ledgends was played in front of 2,847 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah starter, Robert Gsellman, was sharp with good control, pitching 6.2 innings, allowed only 1 run on 6 hits, walked 1 batter and struck out 10. It was his birthday and he improved his record to 8-4 with the win.
Savannah out hit Lexington 12-8 and won 5-1.
It was a good start of the second inning for Savannah, as 3 concetuive singles by Nelfi Zapata,3b Jorge Rivero,2b, and Victor Cruzado,rf loaded the bases. Back to back sacrifice flies by catcher Colton Plaia and Patrick Biondi,lf scored 2 runs.
Lexington scored their run in the 3rd inning. Frank Schwindel,1b walked, advanced to second on a single by Mauricio Ramos,3b and scored on a single by Elier Hernandes,cf.
In the 3rd inning for Savannah, Zapata doubled and scored on a single by Rivero.
Savannah scored their 4th run in the 4th inning when Biondi reached first on a bunt, went to second on a sac bunt, and scored on a hit by Champ Stuart,cf.
The final run for Savannah was scored in the 8th inning.
Five Sand Gnat players had 2 hits each. First baseman Matt Overste singled in the 5th to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.
