Game two of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Kannapolis Intimadators was played in front of 865 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. The start of the game was delayed 1 hour and 32 minutes because of rain.
After 3 innings, Kannapolis led 3-0 and Savannah tied the game at 3-3 in the 4th inning and Savannah scored 2 more runs to win 5-3.
In his first appearance at the plate this season, in the second inning, Kannaplois first baseman Brett Tanner hit a home run over the center field fence. In the third inning, lf Kale Kiser hit a home run over the right field fence. cf Ruben Sierra Jr. singled and scored on a double by rf Jason Coats.
The Sand Gnats scored 3 runs in the 4th. cf Eudy Piña and 2b Yucary De La Cruz both singled and both scored on a double by 1b Jayce Boyd. A fly ball out enabled Boyd to reach third and he scored the third run on a wild pitch.
In the 6th, Savannah scored a run when Boyd reached base on a throwing error and scored on double by Plawecki.
Players with multiple hits for Savannah. Piña was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Boyd went 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored and 2RBI's. Plawecki was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and is now hitting .406.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Gabriel Yona, (W, 3-2), pitched 7 innings, allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, 0 BB, and struck out 8. Reliever Beck Wheeler, recorded 6 outs in the last two innings to earn his second save of the season.
The final game of the three game series is Friday at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium. This home stand, Savannah has won 8 out of 9 games.
