Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of 3,098 fans Saturday at Grayson Stadium. Sand Gnats won 7-2 and will try to sweep the four game series Sunday.
Savannah got off to a fast start scoring 4 runs in the first. 2bChad Zurcher led off with a single and went to third on a double by cfBrandon Nimmo. 1bJayce Boyd singled to score the first run. A double by rfMaiki De La Cruz scored 2 runs. 3bCole Frenzel singled to score the 4th run.
Greenville scored a run in the 2nd inning and a run in the 3rd inning.
Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the 6th on a double by lfGreg Pron.
In the 8th inning for Savannah, Boyd led off the inning with his 6th home run of the season, a line drive over the left field fence. Boyd was 3-for4, scored 3 runs and is now hitting 356.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Luis Cessa, pitched 7 innings allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. Submarine style specialist, Tyler Vanderheiden, pitched the last two innings, allowed 1 hit, walked 1, and struck out 3.
The final game of this series starts Sunday at 2:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.
