Savannah Sand Gnats 2 Hagerstown Suns 0

The Savannah Sand Gnats are the 2013 South Atlantic League Champions as they defeated the Hagerstown Suns 2-0 Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
For the second straight night, Savannah pitching shutout Hagerstown. Savannah managed two hits for the game. In the 4th inning, Savannah received three walks to load the bases, when lfStefon Sabol doubled to score the two runs.

Savannah Sand Gnats 6 Hagerstown Suns 0

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hagerstown Suns played two games this week in Hagerstown, Md with Hagerstown winning the first game 6-1 and Savannah winning game two, 6-2.

Game three of the SAL Championship was played in Savannah at Grayson Stadium Thursday evening in front of 1,760  fans. Savannah pitchers were dominant as they
 shutout Hagerstown, winning 6-0 to lead the series 2-1.
In the 2nd inning, Savannah scored 2 runs. 2bDilson Herrera walked and went to third on a single by 1bCole Frenzel. A sac fly scored Herrera. 3bJeff Reynolds  singled to drive in Frenzel.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the 4th inning, 1 run in the 5th inning and 1 run in the 6th inning.
Leading hitters for the Sand Gnats: Reynolds was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI's. Frenzel was 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored.

Savannah Sand Gnats 5 Augusta Greenjackets 0

The second game of the playoffs between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets was played in front of 2,297  fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won 5-0 to swep the best- of - three Southern Division Championship Series two games to none.
Steven Matz was masterful for Savannah, shutting out Augusta for 7 innings, gave up only 1 hit, 0 BB, and struck out 8.
Savannah scored their first run in the 3rd inning.rfEudy Piña tripled and scored when dhMaikis De La Cruz hit into a fielders choice.
In the 4th inning, 3bJeff Reynolds doubled. ssPhillip Evans walked. Piña was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A triple by cfBrandon Nimmo plated three runs.
The final run for Savannah was scored in the 7th inning. Piña singled and scored on a triple by dhMaikis De La Cruz.
Savannah relievers were equally impressive. Paul Sewald pitched the 8th inning, allowed 1 hit and struck out 1. Beck Wheeler pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning and struck out 2.
The Sand Gnats advance to play the winner of the Northern Division Champion to determine the SAL Championship-the first game will be played Monday at the winner of the Northern Division Champion.

Savannah Sand Gnats 10 Augusta Greenjackets 2

The first game of the playoffs between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets was played in Augusta, Georgia Wednesday evening.
Savannah utilized solid pitching and exploded for 16 hits to win the game 10-2.
The first run was scored by Savannah in the 3rd inning. dhEudy Piña singled and moved to second when cfBrandon Nimmo walked. A single by rfMaikis De La Cruz  scored Piña. Sand Gnats scored 6 runs in the 5th inning. A home run over the left field fence by ssPhillip Evans in the 6th inning gave Savannah an 8-0 lead. In the 9th Savannah added 2 more runs.
Augusta scored a run in the 7th inning.and a run in the 8th inning. For the game, Augusta had 9 hits. Leading hitters for the Greenjackets, catcher, Ben Turner 3-for4, "Chuckie" Jones 2-for-4, and Mitch Delfino 2-for-4.
Sand Gnats leading hitters, lfStefon Sabol 3-for-5 with 4 RBL's, and DeLa Cruz 3-for 5 with 2 RBI's. Getting  two hits each, Piña, Nimmo, 3bJeff Reynolds, and catcher Albert Cordero.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Gabriel Yona, Won, pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, 1BB, and struck out 4. Reliever Paul Sewald, pitched 1 1/3 shutout innings, gave up 2 hits and struck out 4.
The announced attendance was 1,211.
Game two of the playoffs will be played in Savannah at Grayson Stadium starting at 7:05 Friday.

Game six of the six game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of 1,681 fans Monday at Grayson Stadium. Fans saw an exciting game with excellant pitching from both teams. Both teams had 3 hits.
Greenville scored their run in the 2nd inning. 3bKeaton Brisco was hit by a pitch. 1bBoss Moanaroa singled sending Brisco to third. Catcher Leonel Escobar hit a ground ball to the first baseman , Brian Harrison, who steped on the bag for an out and the throw to second base was not in time to double up the runner-Brisco scored.

Greenville Drive 2 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

Game five of the six game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of 1,031 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Greenville scored 2 runs in the third inning which held up for the win, 2-1.
In the third inning, 2bDreily Guerrero singled and went to third on a throwing error by the pitcher. Three consecutive walks scored a run. The second run scored on a sac fly by dhMario Martinez.
Savannah scored their run in the 6th inning. cfBrandon Nimmo singled, stole second and went to third on a throwing error by the catcher. 1bCole Frenzel  singled to drive in Nimmo.
Savannah had 7 hits for the game. Frenzel was 3-for-4 with 1RBI. Catcher Albert Cordero was 2-for-3.

Gnats Sweep Drive Again

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive played a double header Saturday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. For the second day , Savannah beat Greenville in double headers, winning Saturdays games, 4-2 and 6-4.
Game One:
In the first inning, Savannah scored 3 runs. cfMaikis De La Cruz  doubled and advanced to third on a ground out and an error-he scored on a balk. 3bCole Frenzel walked and two runs scored on a double by lfStefan Sabol. Savannah added a run in the 3rd inning.
Greenville scored two runs in the 5th inning. 1bBoss Moanaroa doubled and scored on a single by lfFelix Sanchez. A double by 2bReed Gragnani scored Moanaroa.
Savannah starter, Luis Cessa pitched a complete game, pitching 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5hits, 0 BB, and struck out 7. With the win, Cessa is now 8-4 and has an ERA of 3.12.

Game Two:
It was another big inning for Savannah in the first inning as they scored 4runs. rfEudy Piña led off with a single. cfBrandon Nimmo walked. 2bDilson Herrera reached base on an error. 1bCole Frenzel singled to score a run. A double by lfStefan Sabol scored 2 runs. 3bJeff Reynolds drove in a run with a single. In the second inning, Savannah scored 2 more runs.
Greenville scored a run in the 2nd inning. 3bMario Martinez doubled, went to third on a single by catcher, Tim Roberson. Martinez scored on a ground out double play. Doubles by Martinez and rfKendrick Perkins scored a run in the 4th inning. Greenville scored a run in the 6th and  a run in the 7th inning.
Jake Kuebler pitched 5 innings for Savannah, allowed 2runs on 7 hits, 2 BB, and struck out 4
Eastarlin Morel, pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 0 BB, and struck out 1.

Gnats Sweep Drive

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive played a double header Friday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Savannah came from behind to win both games, 5-4 and 5-2.
Game one:
Greenville scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning.
Savannah scored three runs in the 4th inning.cfBrandon Nimmo and dhMaikis De La Cruz both walked and advanced  a base on a wild pitch. 2bDilson Herrera hit a sack fly to score Nimmo. 3bCole  Frenzel hit a 2 run home run over the right field fence.(His 7th home run of the season).
Greenville tied the score at 3-3 in the 5th inning on back to back doubles by ssJose Vinicio and cfJesus Loya. The final run for the Drive came in the 7th inning on a home run over the right field fence by 1bBoss Moanaroa(His 4th home run of the year).
The Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the 6th inning.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Tim Peterson , Won, (1-0), pitched 6 innings, allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, 0BB, and struck out 2. Reliever, Beck Wheeler, pitched 1 inning, allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 0BB, 0 strike outs to earn his 18 save of the year.

Game two:
Greenville pitcher, Cody Kukuk, was masterful for 5 innings, striking out 9 and did not allow a hit .
However it changed in the 6th inning when Savannah erupted for 5 runs on 4 hits and took advantage of 2BB and two throwing errors
Greenville scored their two runs in the 6th inning on a single by rfAneury Tavarez and doubles by 1bMario Martinez and lfKendrick Perkins.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Steven Matz, pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, 3BB, and 6 strike outs.
Wanel  Messa pitched 1 1/3 innings, no runs on 1 hit, 1BB, and struck out 2.With the win, Messa is now 2-2.
The announced attendance was 1,777.

West Virginia Power 4 Savannah Sand Gnats 3

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the West Virginia Power was played in front of 1,498 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. West Virginia  won 4-3 and won 3 out of 4 games.
Savannah got off to a good start scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning. rfEudy Piña led off with a single. dhBrandon Nimmo walked. cfMikis De La Cruz singled to load the bases. A run scored when 3bCole Frenzel walked. lfStefan Sabal walked and the second run scored.
West Virginia scored a run in the 3rd inning when 3bJimmy Rider doubled and scored on a single by rfWalker Gourley.
With the bases loaded in the 5th inning for Savannah, Frenzel was hit by a pitch and the 3rd run scored for Savannah.
West Virginia took the lead in the 7th inning. 2bChris Diaz singled and catcher Francisco Diaz walked followed by a home run over the left field fence by Rider, to give the Power 4-3 lead which was the final score. Rider, who intered the game batting .190, went 4-4 with 3 RBI's and scored 2 runs  batting in the nineth position.
Savannah starting pitcher, Seth Lugo, pitched well, going 7 innings, allowed 4 runs on 9 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7. Lugo is now 2-1 and his ERA is 2.42
Reliever, Eastarlin Morel pitched the final 2 innings, allowed 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 BB, and struck out 4.

Gnats Split Double Header with Power

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the West Virginia Power played a double header Saturday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. West Virginia won the first game 6-3 and Savannah won the second game 6-1.
Game one:
In the 2nd inning, West Virginia scored three runs. Leading off the inning, 2bDilson Herrera hit a home run over the left field fence, his 11th  home run of the year. dhJordan Steranka singled and scored when catcher, Franscio Diaz hit his first home run of the year over the right field fence.
Savannah tired the game in the second inning. rfEudy Piña was hit by a pitch. dhBrian Harrison walked. Catcher, Albert Cordero,  singled to score a run. ssPhilip Evans singled to drive in 1 run. Cordero scored on a ground out.
West Virginia scored three runs in the 9th inning. Two runs scored on back to back walks followed by a triple by Franscio Diaz. A single by Christopher Diaz  scored a run.
Sand Gnats managed four hits for the game, Cordero was 1-for-3 and played outstanding defense behind the plate, throwing out 2 runners trying to steal second base and he picked off 2 runners who could not return to first base in time.

Savannah starting pitcher Steven Matz, was sharp, pitching 5 1/3 innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 run, 2BB, and struck out 7. With the win, Matz is now 5-6. Paul Sewald pitched 1 2/3 innings allowed no runs on 1 hit, 1 BB, and struck out 2 to earn his 7th save of the season.

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the West Virginia Power was played Friday evening in front of  2,669 fans at Grayson Stadium. West Virginia won 4-2
In the 4th inning the Power scored 3 runs. ssMax Moroff  led off the inning with a towering home run over the right field fence, his 8th home run of the year. 1bWalker Gourley reached first on a bunt and scored when dhJordan Steranka tripled. A double by cfRaul Fortunato scored Steranka.
Savannah scored two runs in the 7th inning. rfEudy Piña walked and 3bJeff Reynolds was hit by a pitch. Both runners advanced a base on a wild pitch. A single by catcher Jeff Glenn scored both runners. Savannah had 5 hits for the game. Glenn was 2-for-4.

Hickory Crawdads 2 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was played in front of  1,318 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw an exciting game with the winning run scored  in the 9th inning. Hickory won 2-1 and tied the series at 2-2.
Savannah took a 1-0 lead in the first inning.  2bJorge Rivero reached first on a fielding error by the shortstop and moved to second on a ground out. A single by 1bBrian Harrison scored Rivero.
Hickory tied the game in the 4th inning. dhJoey Gallo walked and later scored on a single by catcher, David Lyon.
Going into the 9th inning tied, leading off for Hickory, dhJoey Gallo hit a towering drive over the right field fence for the winning run. It was his 27th home run of the season. Starting the game Sunday, Gallo lead the South Atlantic League with 26 home runs.
The Sand Gnats had 4 hits for the game. Brian Harrison was 2-for-4.

Savannah Sand Gnats 2 Hickory Crawdads 0

Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was played in front of  2,991 fans Saturday  at Grayson Stadium. Gnats won 2-0.
Fans saw excellent pitching.
Hickory starter, Frank Lopez, gave up his first hit after pitching 5 1/3 innings  to dfBrandon Nimmo, and was taken out of  the game. He struck out 7 and walked 2.
Seth Lugo was stellar for Savannah,  pitching 7 shutout innings, 0BB, allowed 4 hits and struck out 11. He won his first game. Pitching in two games(13 innings), Lugo has struck out 21 batters.
Savannah scored a run in the 7th inning when 3bJeff Reynolds doubled and scored on a single by 2bJorge Rivero.  Their second run was scored in the 8th inning:rfEudy Piña doubled and scored on a single by dhGreg Pron.
Paul Sewald, pitched the final 2 innings for Savannah, allowed 2 hits and struck out 4. He earned his 5th save.
The final game of the four game series starts Sunday at 2:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Tour continues at Whole Foods Market

Today people were able to tour Whole Foods Market for the second straight day to see what to expect when the store opens Tuesday, August 13, 2013. Actually,  staff report that the store opens Tuesday at 8:30 am with a bread-braking ceremony
Yesterday people in the tour saw a movie about Whole Foods and its principles. At the Bakery, shoppers were given a sample and were given chips and dips sample at another station. Several hundred curious shoppers participated in the private store tour throughout the day Friday.
Last evening at the Savannah Sand Gnat game, the Marketing Director at Whole Foods, passed out shopping bags to baseball fans entering the game.

Hickory Crawdads 4 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was played in front of 1,793 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Hickory won the game 4-1 to even the series at 1-1.
In the 4th inning, Hickory scored the first run of the game when catcher Jorge Alfaro doubled and scored on a single by rfNomar Mazara. Hickory scored three runs in the 6th inning.
Savannah scored their lone run in the 8th inning. rfEudy Piña was hit by a pitch and went to second when catcher Jeff Glenn walked. A single by 3bBrian Harrison scored Piña.
Savannah starting pitcher, Steven Matz, (Lost, 4-5), pitched 5 innings, allowed 1 run on 6 hits, 0BB, and struck out 9.
Tyler Vanderheiden, allowed 3 runs on 3 hits, 1BB, and 0 K's.
Hunter Carnevale was effective, pitched 3 shutout innings, did not allow a hit and struck out 4.

Whole Foods Market

Today I took a tour of the new store, Whole Foods Market on Victory Drive.
Work is still being completed. It is a beautiful facility. Shoppers will enjoy the store, as it offers a wide variety of choices. The store opens, Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at 9:00am.
At the Savannah Sand Gnat game Thursday evening, staff  from Whole Foods Market passed out  hand fans and shopping bags to baseball fans entering Grayson Stadium.

Hickory scored a run in the 5th inning and 2runs in the 6th inning.

Charleston RiverDogs 9 Savannah Sand Gnats 7

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played Wednesday evening in front of 1,761 fans at Grayson Stadium. Charleston avoided the sweep and won 9-7. Charleston had 10 hits, Savannah 9 hits.
In the first inning, Charleston scored a run and Savannah scored 2 runs  in the bottom of the first.
Savannah took a 4-1 lead in the second inning, cfBrandon Nimmo doubled to drive in 2 runs. Nimmo went 3-for-5.
Charleston scored 3 runs in the 5th inning and 3 runs in the 6th inning-dhGreg Bird hit a 2 run home run over the right field fence, it was his 17th home run of the season.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 5th inning, a single by dhNelfi Zapata drove in two runs.
Sand Gnat starting pitcher, Marco Camarena pitched 5 innings allowed 6 runs on 6 hits, 2BB, and struck out 1.

Savannah Sand Gnats 1 Charleston RiverDogs 0

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of  1,556 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. It was another night of outstanding pitching by both teams. Charleston  out hit Savannah 6-4, but Savannah won 1-0.
Leading off the 6th inning for Savannah, catcher Albert Cordero doubled and moved to third on a sac bunt. A single by 2bJorge Rivero scored Cordero, who was 2-for-3 and improved his average to.278.
Charleston starter, Brett Gerritse, pitched 6 innings, allowed 1 run on 4 hits, 6k. and 0BB.
Sand Gnat starter, Gabriel Yona, (won,  13-4), pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowed 3 hits, 5 strikeouts, and did not walk a batter.Tim Peterson pitched 1/3 of an inning and recorded a strike out. Savannah Sand Gnats 6 Charleston RiverDogs 0

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 2,904 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah scored a run in the third inning to take a 1-0 lead and scored 5 runs in the 8th inning to win the game 6-0.
In the 3rd inning, three singles by ssDiamas Ponce, 2bJorge Rivero, and cfBrandon Nimmo loaded the bases. A ground ball double play scored Ponce
The Sand Gnats rallied in the 8th inning with 6 hits to score 5 runs. Nimmo hit a two run home run over the right field fence, his 2nd of the season. Three runs were scored on RBI singles by rfEudy Pina, lfGreg  Pron, and catcher, Albert Cordero.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Luis Cessa, was masterful, striking out 12 batters in 8 shutout innings, allowed 4hits and did not walk a batter. With the win, Cessa is now 7-3 with an ERA of 3.12. Pitching the 9th inning, Paul Sewald, allowed a single, walked 1, and struck out the side.

Augusta Greenjackets 6 Savanna Sand Gnats 1

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets was played in front of 1,456 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Augusta avoided the sweep and won 6-1.
Augusta scored in the first inning. Catcher Trevor Brown, singled and moved to second on a single by 3bMitch Delfino. A sac fly sent Brown to third. Brown scored on a double steal.
Savannah tied the score at 1-1 in the first inning when lead off hitter, Jorge Rivero  doubled, moved to third on a ground out and scored on a sac fly by lfMaikis De La Cruz.
Augusta scored three runs in the 3rd inning, one run in the 6th inning and 1 run in the 8th inning.
For the game, Savannah had 4 hits. Getting 2 doubles, Jorge Rivero, was 2-for-4. 1bBrian Harrison, who was transferred to Savannah from St. Lucie Sunday, doubled in the 4th inning.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Julian Hilario, (lost, 5-4), pitched 4 innings allowed  4 runs on 6  hits 1BB and no strike outs. Sand Gnats used 5 pitchers in relief, each pitching 1 inning. Tyler Vanderheiden was impressive pitching a 1-2-3 5th inning, Hunter Carnevale pitched a   1-2-3  7th inning,  and Beck Wheeler was sharp in the 9th inning, striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.

Gnats Sweep Jackets in double header Saturday

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets  played a double header Saturday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won both games, 3-2,in the first game and 3-1 in the second game.
Trailing 2-1 going into the 7 th inning of the first game, Savannah rallied scoring 2runs for the win.
cfBrandon Nimmo walked and lfStefon Sabol walked. RfEudy Piña singled to score Nimmo. 1bCole Frenzel singled to drive in Sabol with the winning run. Savannah starter, Marcos Camarena won his 5th game, pitched the complete game, 7 innings, allowed 2 runs on  7 hits, 0 BB, and struck out 2.
In game two, Savannah starter , Matt Koch, had a no hitter going into the 7th inning when, Augusta lead off hitter, Rashawn Payne tripled and scored on a sac fly by 2bTrevor Brown, A double by 1b Cole Frenzel drove in two runs  in the first inning to give Savannah a 2-0 lead. Savannah scored their third run in the second inning when 3bDimas Ponce doubled and scored on a single by 2bJorge Rivero. Savannah  starter, MattKoch (won, 6-4), pitched the complete game, pitched 7 innings, allowed 1 run on 1hit, 0BB, and struck out 4.
The announced attendance was 2,989.

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets was played in front of  2,721 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
It was a hitting barrage with Savannh getting 14  hits and Augusta had 13 hits. Savannah won 9-4.
Savannah got off to a quick start scoring 2 runs in the first: lfMaikis De La Cruz singled and stole second. dhStefan Sabol singled and both runners scored on a double by rfEudy Piña.
In the fourth inning, Savannah scored 4 runs and they scored three runs in the third inning
A single by 1bJoey Rapp in the third inning,  scored dhRashawn Payne and 2bTrevorvBrown who singled for Augusta. The Greenjackets scored a run in the fourth inning and a run in the 5th inning.
Sand Gnats were led in hitting by ssPhillip Evans with three hits. Getting two hits apiece, 3bJeff Reynolds, dhStefan Sabol, lfMaikis De La Cruz, and 2bJorge Rivero.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Gabriel Ynoa,  pitched 5 innnings, gave up 4 runs on 10 hits, 0BB, and struck out 3.  With the win, Ynoa is now (11-4).
Tyler Vanderheiden pitched 1 inning allowed 2 hits and struck out 1.
Wanel Mesa, pitched 3 shutout innings, walked 4, gave up 1hit, struck out 4 to earn his first save of the year.

Savannah Sand Gnats 7 Greenville Drive 4 (2nd game)

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played Saturday evening at Grayson Stadium. The game was tied at 1-1 when rain postponed the game after 5 innings. Sunday rains cancelled the games scheduled.  Monday afternoon the game re-sumed and Greenville scored a run in the 9th inning to win 2-1. DhDavid Chester led off the inning with a walk and was replaced by pinch runner, Keaton Briscoe, who stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a triple by rfAneury Tavarez. Savannh had the bases loaded in the nineth, but could not score.
In the second game, Savannah won 7-4.
Greenville scored three runs in the third inning on three hits and a throwing error by the Sand Gnat pitcher. In the 8th inning, the Drive scored their 4th run.
Savannah scored a run in the 2nd inning when dhEudy Piña reached base on a fielders choice, stole second, stole third, and scored on a ground out to first.
Sand Gnats scored three runs in the 6th inning, 2 runs in the 7th inning, and 1 run in the 8th inning.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Luis Cessa, pitched 7 innings, gave up 3 runs ( 2 earned), on 6 hits, 0BB, and struck out 6. With the win, his record is 5-2.
Paul Sewald allowed 1 run on 2 hits,  pitching the 8th inning.
Beck Wheeler faced three batters in the 9th inning, striking out 2 to earn his 9th save.

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets was played in front of 2,319  fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Augusta avoided being swept in the series and won, 9-1
It was a big second inning for Augusta. Two batters were hit and a throwing error and five hits allowed 7 runs to score Augusta added two more runs in the 4th inning..
Savannah scored their run in the 3rd inning. Catcher, Jeff Glenn led off with a walk, 2bChad Zurcher singled. Glenn scored on a double by lfMaikis De La Cruz.
A rough outing for Savannah starter. Matt Koch,(lost, 5-4),  pitched 1 2/3 innings allowed 7 runs (3 earned), on 6 hits, no walks and no strikeouts.
Julian Hilario pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed 2 runs on 1 hit, 3BB, and struck out 2.
Estarlin  Morel, gave up 3 hits, struck out 1, in 4 innings pitched.
Transferred from Brooklyn to Savannah on 7/11/13, lefty, Shawn Teufel, allowed 3 singles in the nineth inning, struck out 1, and did not allow a run.

Savannah Sand Gnats 1 Augusta Greenjackets 0

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets was played in front of  1,580 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Augusta out hit Savannah 8-4, but Savannah won 1-0.
The only run of the game was scored in the 3rd inning, when lead off batter for Savannah, ssPhillip Evans doubled and scored when the next batter, dhJorge Rivero bunted a ball towards the pitcher who threw to  third and the ball sailed over the third baseman's head for an error.
Savannah played excellent defense. Outfielders threw out two Augusta runners at the plate.  The Greenjackets left seven  men on base,
It was another fine outing for Savannah starter, Marcos Camarena, who pitched 6 1/3 shutout innings, allowed 8 hits, 0 BB, and struck out 2. With the win, Camarena is now 4-0.
Hunter Carnevale pitched 1 2/3 innings, walked one and struck out one.
Paul Sewald ,who earned his 3rd save, pitched  a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out 2.
The final game of the three game series starts Thursday at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium with Savannah looking to sweep the series.

Savannah Sand Gnats 8 Augusta Greenjackets 1

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta Greenjackets was played in front of 1,297 fans Tuesday evening  at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won 8-1.
The Sand Gnats bats were hot as every player had at least 1 hit and lfMaikis De La Cruz had 3 hits.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the first inning. Back to back walks to 2bChad Zurcher and cfBrandon Nimmo, followed by a hit by Maikis De La Cruz loaded the bases. A run scored when 1bCole Frenzel walked. A sac fly to left by rfEudy Piña scored the second run. A bunt single by 3bJeff Reynolds scored the third run.
In the third inning, Piña led off with a home run over the left field fence, his 9th of the year, to give Savannah a 4-0 lead.
Sand Gnats scored a run in the 4th inning, a run in the 6th inning, and 2 runs in the 8th inning.
Augusta scored their run in the 8th inning. 2bTrevor Brown doubled, moved to third on a single by ssMatt Duffy, and scored when catcher Ben Turner hit into a  double play.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Gabriel Ynoa, (Won, 10-3), pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings. Gave up 6 hits, 1 BB, and struck out 5.
Estarlin Morel retired the only batter he faced in 1/3 inning pitched.
Tyler Vanderheiden pitched 2/3 of an inning, allowed 1 run on 3 hits and 2BB.
Closer Beck Wheeler pitched 1 1/3 inning, striking out two and earned his 8th save of the season.

Savannah Sand Gnats 3 Hickory Crawdads 1

Game three of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was played in front of 3,003  fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah out hit Hickory  6-5 and won 3-1.
Hickory scored their run in the first inning. lfNick Williams singled and scored on a double by dhNoman Mazara.
In the second inning, Savannah took a 2-1 lead. dhMaikis De La Cruz  doubled, went to third on a groundout. 3bJeff Reynolds walked. cJeff Glenn reached first on a fielding error by the first baseman allowing De La Cruz to score. A single by 2bChad Zurcher scored Reynolds.
Sand Gnats scored their final run in the 5th inning. ssPhillip Evans doubled.  A sac bunt by Zurcher, allowed Evans to score when the catcher made a throwing error.
A stellar performance by Savannah starter, Marcos Camarena, pitched 5 innings, allowed 1 run on 4 hits, and walked 2.
Julian Hilario pitched 1 inning and walked 1.
Paul Sewald pitched 2 scoreless innings and struck out 3.
Beck Wheeler pitched  the 9th inning allowed 1 hit. It was Wheeler's 7th save of the season.

Hickory Crawdads 9 Savannah Sand Gnats 2

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was  played in front of 892 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Hickory was led by 3bJoey Gallo who drove in 7 runs with his Grand Slam home run in the seventh inning and his three run home run in the nineth inning, both over the right field fence. The Crawdads beat the Gnats 9-2.
In the third inning, 1bRonald Guzman hit a sac fly to left field to score the first run for Hickory.
Savannah scored their first run in the 3rd inning. Catcher Albert Cordero walked, went to second on a walk to ssPhillip Evans. A double steal sent runners to third and second. Cordero scored on a single by cfBrandon Nimmo.
A solo home run by cfLewis Brinson in the 4th inning gave Hickory a 2-1.
In the 9th inning, Savannah scored when dhEudy Piña walked, advanced to second on a ground out, and scored on a single by Cordero.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Gabriel Ynoa, pitched 6 2/3 innings, gave up 4runs, on 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. Julian Hilario, pitched 1 1/3 innings allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, 1BB, and struck out 1.

Hickory Crawdads 5 Savannah Sand Gnats 0

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was played in front of 1,335 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium. Hickory won 5-0.
It was an excellent outing by the Hickoty statrer, Luis Parra, who shut out the Gnats, pitching 8 innings, allowed 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4.
Hickory scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning.  They scored 1 run in the 7th inning when lfNick Vickerson reached base on an error and went to second and scored on a single by 1b Ronald Guzman.
The Crawdads scored 2 runs in the 9th inning:Vickerson walked and scored on a home run by Guzman, a towering fly ball that easily cleared the right field fence. For the game, Guzman had 4 RRI's.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Jake Kuebler, pitched 5 innings, allowed 2 runs on 4 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. With the loss, Kuebler is 2-4.
Tyler Vanderheiden pitched 2 innings, allowed 1 run on 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3.
Hunter Carnevale pitched 2 innings, gave up 2 runs on 1 hit, 1BB, and struck out 3.

Savannah Sand Gnats 2 Rome Braves 1

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,394 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
For the third game in a row, Savannah faced excellent pitching, and won in the 10th  inning, 2-1.
Rome took a 1-0 lead in the 7th inning when catcher Chase Anselment hit a home run, against the wind, over the right field fence
Savannah tied the score in the 8th inning, cfBrandon Nimmo singled, stole second and scored on a single by lfKyle Johnson.
The Sand Gnats scored the winning run in the 10th inning. Leading off the inning, ssPhillip Evans singled and went to second on a single by Nimmo. Johnson was hit by a pitch to load the bases. 3bCole Frenzel hit a ground ball towards the shortstop for an infield hit,
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Luis Cessa, pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowed 1run on 7 hits,1BB, and struck out 3. Paul Sewald pitched 2 1/3 innings, gave up 1 hit and struck out 3. Beck Wheeler won(1-4) pitched a1-2-3 tenth inning.

Rome Braves 6 Savannah Sand Gnats 2

Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,309 fans Saturday at Grayson Stadium.
It was a solid outing for Rome starter, Lucas Sims, allowed only one hit in his 6 innings pitched and he gave up 2 runs. Rome won 6-2.
Savannah scored both runs in the 1st inning. 2bChad Zurcher walked and went to third on a single by Brandon Nimmo. A throwing error by the shortstop allowed Zurcher to  score. 1bCole Frenzel hit a sac fly to right field to score Nimmo. The only other hit in the game by Savannah, was a single by Frenzel in the 9th inning.
Rome scored a run in the  2nd inning. In the 6th inning, 3bRonald Luna doubled and scored on a double by cfKyle Wren. A sac fly to center scored Wren. Rome scored three runs in the 9th inning.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Steven Matz, pitched 8 innings, allowed 3 runs( 2 earned),  on 4 hits, and struck out 5. Wanel Mesa, pitched the 9th inning for Savannah, gave up 3 runs, walked 3, allowed 2 hits, and struck out 1.

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of  2,224 fans Friday at Grayson Stadium. Both teams had 5 hits and Savannah won 3-0.
Fans saw a. great pitching duel between both starters: Mauricio Cabrera for Rome, pitched 7 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits and struck out 8 and walked 1.. Matt Koch for Savannaah , pitched 7 1/3 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, struck out 5, and did not walk a batter.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 8th inning. 3bJeff Reynolds singled and pinch runner Eudy Pinna advanced to second on a sac bunt by cAlbert Cordero. ssPhillip Evans singled. 2bChad Zurcher drove in the first run with a single. A run scored on a cfBrandon Nimmo RBI ground out. Zurcher scored on a wild pitch.
Sand Gnat reliever, Paul Sewald , who won his first game and is now (1-1),pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings, allowed 1 hit, and struck out 2.

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 3,393 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah out hit Rome 16-7 and won the game 10-3.
Savannah scored their first run in the 3rd inning. 1bNelfi Zapata doubled and scored on a single by cAlbert Cordero.
Rome scored their first run in the 6th inning.Savannah scored 5 runs in their 6th inning.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 7th inning and 1 run in the 8th inning.
The Braves scored their final 2 runs in the 7th inning.
For the Sand Gnats, Zapata went 3-for-5with 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. 3bCole Frenzel was 3-for-5 with 2RBI's and a run scored. Getting 2 hits each: 2bChad Zurcher, dhStefan Sabol, cAlbert Cordero, and ssPhillip Evans.
Savannah starting pitcher, Logan Taylor, left the game with an apparent injury after 1 2/3 innings.
Pitching the most innings for the game, Julian Hilario, pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings and allowed 2 hits. Winning his 4th game with no losses, Tyler Vanderheiden, pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed 3 runs on 2hits, 3BB, and struck out 1. Hunter Carnevale pitched 1 1/3 innings, struck out 1 and gave up 1 hit. Beck Wheeler pitched 1 inning allowed 1 hit and struck out 1.

Savannah Sand Gnats 8 Greenville Drive 0

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of  1,692 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Savannah shut out Greenville and won 8-0 and swept the series. It was a tremendous series for Jayce Boyd  who went 11 for 13 with 2 home runs, 1 triple, 6 walks and now is hitting .361.
Savannah scored in the 4th inning when rfGreg Pron doubled to score 2 runs. It was the first hit for the Sand Gnats.
In the 7th inning, ssChad Zurcher and cfBrandon Nimmo both singled. A single by 1bJayce Boyd drove in a run. A fieldérs choice ground out scored a run.  RfEudy Piña hit a home run over the left field fence to score 2 runs. It was the 7th home run of the season for Piña.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the 8th. A single by cKevin Plawecki drove in a run .Boyd  singled and was on third when he scored on a wild pitch.
Savannah starter, Gabriel Ynoa( Won, 8-2), pitched 5 shutout innings, gave iup 3 hits,0BB, and struck out 6.
Reliever, Marco Camarena, pitched 3 innings, allowed 2 hits, and struck out 1.

Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of  3,098 fans Saturday at Grayson Stadium. Sand Gnats won 7-2 and will try to sweep the four game  series Sunday.
Savannah got off to a fast start scoring 4 runs in the first. 2bChad Zurcher led off with a single and went to third on a double by cfBrandon Nimmo. 1bJayce Boyd singled to score the first run. A double by rfMaiki De La Cruz scored 2 runs. 3bCole Frenzel singled to score the 4th run.
Greenville scored  a run in the 2nd inning and a run in the 3rd inning.
Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the 6th on a double by lfGreg Pron.
In the 8th inning for Savannah, Boyd led off the inning with his 6th home run of the season,  a line drive over the left field fence. Boyd was 3-for4, scored 3 runs and is now hitting 356.

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of 3,017  fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. It was an exciting game with Savannah winning 2-1 in twelve innings. With the win and a loss by the  Charleston RiverDogs, Savannah wins the first half Southern Division Championship.

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played in front of  2,471 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah bats were hot as the team had 13 hits with 5 players with 2 or more hits. The Sand Gnats won 9-4.
Sand Gnats got off to a fast start scoring in the first inning. Lead off batter, rfEudy Piña, doubled, went to third on a ground out, and scored on a sac fly. Piña was busy on the bases scoring 4 runs.
Leading off the third inning, ssPhillip Evans, singled followed by a walk to Piña. 1bJayce Boyd hit a line drive for a home run over the left field fence to make the score 4-0. Boyd responded well hitting in the clean up spot, going 4-for-4 and was a double shy of hitting for the cycle.
Savannah scored 1 run in the 5th inning, 1run in the 7th inning and 3 runs in the 8th inning.
Greenville scored 3 runs in the 6th inning.cJayson Hernandez and ss Dreily
 Guerrero singled  and both scored on a triple by lfKevin Heller. A wild pitch allowed Heller to score. Greenville added their final run in the 8th inning.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Jake Kuebler,(Won, 2-2), pitched 5 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits, no BB, and struck out 2. Reliever Marco Camarena pitched 1 inning, allowed 3 runs on 3 hits.
Hunter Carnevale pitched 1 inning and struck out 1.
Pitching the final 2 innings, Beck Wheeler, earned his 6th save, allowed 1 run on 1 hit, 2BB, and struck out 3.

Savannah Sand Gnats 9 Ashville Tourists 2

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Ashville Tourists was played in front of  1,498 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah out hit Ashville 9-8 and won 9-2 to take 2 of 3 games from Ashville.
Sand Gnats scored two runs in the third inning without a hit.
Ashville scored 2 runs in the 4th inning on 2singles and 2doubles.
In the 4th inning, Savannah scored 4 runs. dhEudy Piña led off with a triple and scored on a single by 3bCole Frenzel. A fielders choice and a single by ssPhillip Evans loaded the bases. A triple by rfMaikiDe La Cruz plated 3 runs.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 7th inning. cKevin Plawecki and lfStefan Sabol both singled and both scored on a double by Frenzel. A sac fly by ssPhillip Evans scored Frenzel
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Matt Koch(won, 5-2), had excellant control striking out 11 in 6 innings of work. He did not walk a batter, allowed 2 runs on 7 hits. Reliever, Julian Hilaio pitched 2 innings allowing 1 hit and struck out 1. Tyler Vanderheiden, side arm specialist, pitched in the 9th and recorded 3 ground outs.
The hitting star for Savannah was Frenzel who was3-for-5 with 2 runs scored and 3RBI's.

Gnats split double header with Tourists

A double header between the Savannh Sand Gnats and the Ashville Tourists was played in front of  1,875 fans Tuesday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Both games went extra innings with Ashville winning the first game 4-3 in 8 innings and Savannah winning the nightcap 1-0 in 11innings.
With the score at 0-0 in the 11th inning in the second game,  Savannah had the bases loaded  with 2outs and cfBrandon Ninno at the plate. Nimmo fouled off it seemed like 10 pitches before drawing a walk to score the winning run. Ashville starter Matt Fleming, was brilliant allowing only 2 hits shutting out Savannah for 7 2/3 innings 1BB, and striking out 6. Savannh starter Logan Taylor,  was effective pitching 6 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, 3 BB, and struck out 6. Reliever Paul Sewald allowed 1hit in 3 innings and struck out 4. Brett Mitchel(won, 2-2) gave up 1 hit in 2 innings and struck out 2.
In the first game, Savannah scored two runs in the first inning. Maiki De La Cruz singled, went to second on a balk, and advanced to third on a single by cKevin Plawecki. A wild pitch scored De La Cruz. lfStefon Sabol tripled to score Plawecki. Savannah scored their third run in the 2nd inning without a hit. cJeff Glenn walked and would score on a balk.
Ashville scored three runs in the 6th inning. 1bDerek Jones hit a solo home run over the right field fence. ssRosell Herrera doubled( he was 4-4), and scored on a single by cfFrancisco Sosa. dh Matt Argyropolous singled to score Sosa.
The winning run for Ashville was scored in the 8th inning. Sosa walked, stole second and scored from second on a wild pitch.
The final game of the series starts at 7:05 pm Wednesday evening at Grayson  Stadium.

Lexington Legends 4 Savannah Sand Gnats 0

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played in front of 988 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Lexington pitching shut out the Sand Gnats and they won 4-0.
The Legends scored their first run in the 3rd inning when 2bKenny Diekroeger singled, stole second and scored on a single by ssRaul Mondesi.
Leading off the 6th inning for Lexington, 1bMark Donato doubled followed by a single by dhFred Ford. Both runners scored on a double by 3bMichael Antonio.
The final Lexington run was scored in the 7th inning when cfBubba Starling singled driving in lfTerrance Gore who singled and advanced to second on a fielding error.
For Savannah, rfMaiki De La Cruz was 2-for-4. cKevin Plawecki and dhEudy Piña each hit doubles.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Robert Gsellman(Lost, 2-3), pitched 6 innings, allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, struck out 6 and walked 1. Tyler Vanderheiden pitched 2 innings, allowed 1run on 2 hits and struck out 2. Beck Wheeler allowed 1hit pitching the 9th inning.

Savannah Sand Gnats 9 Lexington Legends 2

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Legends was played in front of 836 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah had a big second inning scoring 6 run and won the game 9-2.
Lexington scored their two runs in the first. lfEthan Chapman led off the game with a single and advanced to second on a fielding error bycfBrandon Nimmo, and scored on a triple by ssRaul Mondesi. A ground out scored Mondesi.
In the second inning, Savannah took advantage of three walks, 5 hits, to score 6 runs.
A single by Brandon Nimmo in the 6th drove in a run to give Savannah a 7-2 lead.
Sand Gnats scored  2 runs in the 7th inning. lfStefan Sabol hit a home run over the left field fence, his 5th of the year. 2bYucary De La Cruz singled driving in rfEudy Piña to make the score 9-2.
Savannah starter, Logan Taylor, pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed 2 runs, 2hits, struck out 5 and walked 1.
Relievers Marco Camarena(won, 2-0), Julian Hilario, Paul Sewald, and Hunter Carnevale combined to  shutout Lexington the rest of the game and allowed 3 hits and struck out 5.
Sand Gnats with multiple hits. Yucary De La Cruz was 3-for-4 with 1RBI and 2runs scored. 3bJeff Reynolds was 2-for-4 with 1run scored and 2RBI's. Piña was 2-for-3 with 2runs scored. Nimmo was 2-for-3 with 2RBI's.

Augusta GreenJackets 3 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of  1,981 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Augusta scored 2 runs in the 12th inning to break a 1-1 tie and they won 3-1.
The GreenJackets took a 1-0 lead when they scored a run in the 2nd inning when 1bJoe Rapp doubled and scored on a single by lfAndrew Cain.
Savannah tied the game with a run in the 8th inning. 2bYucary De La Cruz singled, went to second on a walk to dhJayce Boyd and a single by cKevin Plawecki scored  De La Cruz
In the 10th inning, Savannah had the bases loaded with no outs and could not score.
Augusta scored 2 runs in the 12th inning. 3bShayne Houck singled followed by a single by ssMatt Duffy. Rapp drove in a run with a single followed by a single by 2bTrevor Brown to score their third run.
Boyd was 3-for-5 and Plawecki was 2-for-6 with 1 RBI.
Savannah starter, Luis Cessa, pitched 6 2/3 innings allowed 1run on 7 hits, 2 BB, and struck out 7.
Paul Sewald pitched 1 1/3 innings, gave up 1 hits, struck out 1.

Savannah Sand Gnats 2 Augusta GreenJackets 1

Game three of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 3,196 fans Saturday at Grayson Stadium.
It was another exciting 9th inning, as Savannah trailed 1-0 in the 9th and rallied to win 2-1.
In the 6th inning for Augusta, 2bTrevir Brown singled, followed by singles by dhEric Sim and cBen Turner's hit scored Brown.
After one out in the 9th for Savannah, lfGreg Pron walked. 1bCole Frenzel singled. cJeff Glenn singled to drive in the first Savannah run to tie the game.With two outs, ssPhillip Evans single drove in Frenzel with the wining run.
Glenn was 2-for-4 with 1RBI.
Jake Kuebler was the starting pitcher for Savannah, pitched 4 shutout innings, struck out 4, allowed 2  hits and walked 1.
Marco Camarena pitched 4 innings, allowed 1 run on 4 hits, and struck out 3.
Tyler Vanderheiden(Won, 3-0), pitched the 9th inning, struck out 2 and gave up 2 hits.

Savannah Sand Gnats 6 Augusta GreenJackets 5

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of  2,068 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Fans saw lots of hits, as Savannah had 11 hits and Augusta had 10 hits.
It was an exciting game with Savannah able to hold on in the 9th inning to win 6-5
Sand Gnats got off to a quick start scoring 3 runs in the first inning. Leading off the bottom of the first, 2bYcary De La Cruz singled and dhJayce Boyd singled. cKevin Plawecki hit his 6th home run of the season over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead.
In the second inning, Augusta scored three runs on 4 singles and a sacrifice fly. Augusta took a 5-3 lead in the third inning on solo home runs by 3bMitch Delfino and lfRafael Rodriguez.
Savannah had the bases loaded in the 5th inning when Plawecki walked to score a run. lfStefan Sabol doubled driving in two runs.
Players with multiple hits for Savannah. Yucary De La Cruz was 2-for-5 with 2runs scored. Boyd was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Plawecki was 2-for-3 with 4 RBI's and a run scored.rf
Maiki De La Cruz was 3-for-4 with a double.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Matt Koch (W, 3-2) gave up 5 runs on 7 hits and struck out 5 in the 5 innings he pitched.
Julian Hilario pitched 2 innings, allowed 1 hit, 1BB, and struck out 4.
Hunter Carnevale pitched 1 inning and struck out 2.
Closer, Beck Wheeler, pitched, the 9th inning. He walked the first batter he faced, the speedster cf Jesus Galindo. Two singles  loaded the bases. The next batter struck out. A fly ball to center field was not deep enough to score the runner on third. The next batter struck out to end the game. It was save number 4 for Wheeler.

Savannah Sand Gnats 3 Augusta GreenJackets 1

The Savannah Sand Gnats played the Augusta GreenJackets in front of 2,742 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw great pitching from both teams. Savannah won 3-1.
Augusta scored their run in the first inning.dhShayne Houck singles, advanced to third on a single by ssMatt Duffy, and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Savannah scored two runs in the 4th inning. 2bYucry De La Cruz led off the inning with a double and reached third on a single by cfEudy Piña. Both runners scored on a double by dhJayce Boyd.
The Sand Gnats scored their third run in the 8th inning. ssPhillip Evans led off with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Evans scored on a ground ball hit to the shortstop who was charged with a throwing error to first base.
Boyd was 2-for-4 with 2RBI's and is now hitting .342.
Savannah starter, Robert Gsellman ( W,2-1), was stellar, pitching 7 innings, allowed 1run on 3 hits, struck out 3, and walked 1. Reliever, Paul Sewald pitched the 8th inning. Closer, Bret Mitchell allowed 1hit in the 9th and struck out 1 to earn his 9th save of the season.

Charleston RiverDogs 4 Savannah Sand Gnats 2

Game three of the three game series between the Sanannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs  was played in front of 1,752  fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Charleston won 4-2 and won 2 out of three games this series. Charleston left 13 men on base, Savannah left 12 men on base.
Leading off the game for Charleston, cfJake Cave singled and would score on a single by 3bDante Bichette Jr. The RiverDogs scored a run in the 4th, 5th, and 7th innings.
Savannah scored their first run in the 4th inning when lfStefon Sabol doubled and scored on a double by 3bJeff Reynolds. The second run was scored in the 9th inning: ssPhillip Evans doubled and scored on a single by dhKevin Plawecki.
Plawecki led Savannah hitters with 3 hits in 5 at  bats and had 1RBI. 3bJeff Reynolds was 2-for-4 with 1 RBI.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Rainy Lara( L, 4-2), pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowed 3 runs(2 earned), on7  hits, 1BB, and struck out 4. Reliever Tyler Vanderheiden pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowed 1 run on 1 hit and walked 2. Beck Wheeler pitched 2 2/3 innings, struck out 4 and gave up 2 hits.

Charleston RiverDogs 2 Savannah Sand Gnats 0

Game two of the three  game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 1,057 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Charleston quelled a Savannah ralley in the 9th with two players on base, and won 2-0
Leading off the 1st for Charleston, cfTaylor Dogas singled, stole second, moved to third on a single by  Cito Culver and scored on a groundball double play. In the 4th inning, back-to-back triples by cPeter O'Brien and 3bDante Bichette Jr. gave the RiverDogs a 2-0 lead.
In the 9th, Savannah had runners on second and third, but could not score.
Getting two of the four hits for Savannah, 3bJeff Reynolds was 2-for-3.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Steven Matz( L,2-2), had a good outing, pitching 6 innings, allowed 2runs on 5 hits, struck out 9, and walked 1.

Savannah Sand Gnats 5 Charleston RiverDogs 2

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played Monday evening in front of 2,010  fans at Grayson Stadium. Savannah out hit Charleston 8-6 and won 5-2. Savannah took first place away from Charleston.
The Sand Gnats scored a run in the 4th inning when cKevin Plawecki singled, moved to third on a double by Stefan Sabol, and scored on a single by 1bCole Frenzel. In the 5th inning a throwing error to third by the Charleston pitcher allowed 2runs to score. With 2 outs in the 6th inning, Frenzel hit his third home run of the season over the right field fence. The final run for Savannah was scored in the 7th inning when cfEudy Piña tripled and scored on a wild pitch.
The RiverDogs scored two runs in the 9th inning. 3bDante Bichette Jr. singled and advanced to third on a double by 1bReymond Nunez. Both runners scored on a single by lfKelvin Deleon.
Frenzel was 2-3 with a run scored, 2 RBI's, HR and a single.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Garbiel Yona( W, 4-2), pitched 6 shutout innings, allowed 2hits, 1BB, and struck out 7. Reliever Brett Micchell struck out the two batters he faced in the 9th to earn his 8th save.

Rome Braves 4 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,348 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Rome won the game 4-1 to even the series at 2-2. Rome pitching held Savannah to 3 hits for the game. Sand Gnats committed 4 errors.
In the third inning, Rome scored when ssRonald Luna singled and scored on a single by 2bLevi Hyams. A sacrifice fly scored Hyams.
In the bottom of the third, Savannah scored their only run on a home run by lfStefan Sabol over the left field fence, his second of the season.
Leading off the 6th inning for the Braves, cTyler Tewell hit a home run over the right field fence, his second this season. rfFelix Martel tripled and scored when the relay throw hit him and went into the Rome dugout.
Savannah starter Matt Koch(L,1-2), pitched 4 innings, allowed 2 runs(1 earned), gave up 5 hits, 0 BB, and struck out 4.
It was a nice attendance on Mother's Day.
Savannah travels to play at Charleston Monday evening.
