Asheville Tourists 2 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

Game two of the SAL Southern Division Championship Series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists resumed at 4:00pm Saturday at Grayson Stadium. Asheville led 2-1 with Savannah batting in the bottom of the 8th inning with 1 out and a runner on second base. Asheville held on to win the game 2-1. The Tourists swept the series 2 games to none to  win the Championship.
Savannah scored the first run of the game when Victor Cruzado,rf singled, went to third on a single by Dominic Smith,1b and scored on a sacrifice  fly by shortstop Amed Rosario.
Leading off the 4th inning for Asheville, first baseman Correlle Prime hit a line drive home run over the left field fence to tie the score at 1-1.
Asheville took the lead in the 8th inning. David Dahl,cf led off with a double and moved to third on a ground out. A wild pitch by Gnats reliever, Akeel Morris allowed Dahl to score.
Savannah starter, John Gant, pitched 6.2 solid innings, allowed 1run on 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 10. Dawrin Frias(L,0-1) pitched 0.2 innings, allowed 1 run on 1 hit, struck out 1, and no walks. Akeel Morris pitched the final 1.2 innings and struck out 3.
Savannah had 7 hits for the game and Smith was 3-for-4.
Asheville now plays Hagerstown, Northern Division Winner, for the SAL Championship.

Savannah Sand Gnats Asheville Toutists game suspended.

The second game of the South Atlantic League Southern Division Championship series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Heavy rains suspended the game with Asheville leading Savannah 2-1 with Savannah batting in the bottom of the 8th inning with 1 out and a runner on second base.
The game will resume tomorrow, Saturday at 4:00pm at Grayson Stadium.
If Asheville wins the game, they will be the Champions of the Southern Division. If Savannah wins game two and forces a third game, it will start at 6:05pm Saturday.

Savannah Sand Gnats 3 Augusta GreenJackets 0

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah ended their 7 game loosing streak with a 3-0 win over Augusta.
Sand Gnats scored their first run in the 5th inning. Catcher Jeff Glenn doubled and scored on a throwing error by the pitcher on a sac bunt. 
Leading off the 6th inning for Savannah, Victor Cruzado,rf doubled and reached third on a fielding error by the shortstop. A sac fly by Glenn scored Cruzado.
The final run scored by Savannah was in the 7th inning. Patrick Biondi,lf walked and went to second on a ground out. Biondi stole third base and scored on a double by Champ Stuart,,cf
A solid pitching performance by Savannah starter, Robert Gsellman,(W,10-6)  pitched 5 shutout innings, gave up 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 4. Brett Mitchell struck out 3 in 2.0 innings pitched. Paul Paez struck out 1 batter in 1.0 innings pitched.

Pitching the 9th inning, Akeel Morris, walked 1 and struck out 1 to earn his 16 save of the season.
The announced attendance was 2,654.

Augusta GreenJackets 5 Savannah Sand Gnats 4

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah rallied in the 8th inning, scoring 4 runs but lost to Augusta 5-4. Sand Gnats have lost seven straight games.
Augusta starter, Chase Johnson(W,4-7),  was stellar pitching 7 shutout innings, allowed 4 singles, walked 1, and struck out 9.
In the 2nd inning, Augusta scored 3 runs on 2 singles and 2 doubles.
Augusta scored 2 runs in the 3rd inning. Catcher Tyler Ross walked and scored on a double by Scott Price,dh and Price scored when the shortstop made a throwing error.
Savannah scored 4 runs in the 8th inning. Patrick Biondi,lf walked. Champ Stuart,cf reached base on a fielders choice and stole second base. Jon Leroux,dh reached base on a throwing error by the third baseman, allowing Biondi and Stuart to score. Victor Cruzado,rf doubled driving in Leroux. Pinch hitter Jorge Rivero singled to score Cruzado.
The Sand Gnats had 7 hits for the game and Ruiz was 3-for-5.

Augusta GreenJackets 5 Savannah Sand Gnats 3

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
With the score tired at 3-3 going into the 9th inning, Augusta scored 2 runs and held on to win the game 5-3.
Augusta scored their first run in the 2nd inning when Craig Massoni,rf singled, stole second and scored on a single by Ryan Tuntland,1b.
Savannah tied the game in their 2nd inning when leading off the inning, Jon Leroux,dh hit a home run over the left field fence, his 4th home run this season.
With the bases loaded in the 5th inning for Augusta, catcher Tyler Ross drove in a run with a sac fly to center field.
In the 7th inning, Savannah scored 2 runs. Nelfi Zapata,3b singled and scored on a double by Jorge Rivero,2b. A pass ball advanced Rivero to third base and he scored on a single by Yeixon Ruiz,ss.
Augusta scored 1 run in the 7th inning and 2 runs in the 9th inning.

Starting pitcher for Savannah, Robert Whalen, pitched 6.2 innings, allowed 3 runs on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 7.
John Mincone pitched 2.1 innings, allowed 2 runs on 7 hits, no walks, and struck out 3. With the loss, Mincone is 2-2.
The announced attendance was 1,157.

Savannah Sand Gnats 3 Greenville Drive 2

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played Sunday afternoon in front of 1,017  fans at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah edged Greenville 3-2 and swept the series.
Greenville took a 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Franklin Guzman,rf singled and scored on a home run over the left field fence by the catcher Danny Bethea, his first home run this season.
In the 3rd inning, Savannah tied the game at 2-2. Leading off the inning, catcher Colton Plaia singled and went to second on a ground out. Champ Stuart,cf singles and a throwing error on the play by the shortstop allowed Plaia to score. Stuart steals second and  Dominic Smith doubled to score Stuart.
The Sand Gnats scored a run in the 6th inning. Stuart reached first base on a bunt and goes to second on a groundout.  A double by Matt Oberste,dh scored Stuart which turned out to be the winning run.

Savannah Sand Gnats 9 Greenville Drive 3

Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played Saturday at Grayson  Stadium.
Savannah out hit Greenville 12-9 and won 9-3.
In the first inning, Savannah scored 2 runs. Yeixon Ruiz,ss led off the inning with a walk. Dominic Smith,1b singled. Jon Leroux,dh  was hit by a pitch to load the bases. A walk to Victor Cruzado,rf  scored the first run, followed by a walk to Nelfi Zapata,3b to score the second run.
Greenville scored a run in the 4th inning. Back to back singles by Tzu-Wei Lin,ss and Wendell Rijo,2b  was followed by a double play placing Lin on third base. A single by Kevin Mager,lf scored Lin.
Savannah added 3 runs in the 6th inning.
Five convective singles by the Sand Gnats in the 7th inning, helped push across 4 runs.
The Drive rallied in the 9th inning. Lin singled and went to third on a double by Sam Travis,1b. Mager doubled to drive in two runs.
Savannah starter, Alex Panteliodis(W,5-3), came close to a complete game, pitched 8.2 innings, allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, 1BB, and  no strike outs. Reliever John Mincone struck out the only batter he faced in the 9th to end the game.
The announced attendance was 3,213.

Savannah Sand Gnats 16 Greenville Drive 4

Game two of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah bats were hot as they banged out 15  hits and won 16-4.
It was a quick start for Savannah as they scored in the first inning. Yeixon Ruiz,ss led off with a double. Walks to Matt Oberste1b, and Victor Cruzado,rf loaded the bases. Jon Leroux,dh hit a grand slam home run off the left field foul pole for a 4-0 lead. It is his 2nd home run this season.
In the 2nd inning, Savannah sent 9 batters to the plate and scored 5 runs highlighted by a 3 run home run over the left field fence by Cruzado, his 6th this year.
The Sand Gnats sent 9 players to the plate in the 4th inning and scored 4 runs.
Savannah added 3 runs in the 5th inning on a 2 run home run over the left field fence by Jorge Rivero,2b (his 3rd) and catcher Jeff Glenn doubled to score a run.
Greenville scored 3 runs in the 6th inning and added a run in the 8th inning on a solo home run over the left field fence by Cole Sturgeon,cf his 3rd of the season.

Savannah Sand Gnats 4 Greenville Drive 0

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Greenville Drive was played Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
The Sand Gnats bats were hot in the 8th inning as they scored 4 runs and won the opener 4-0.
It was a masterful pitching  performance by Savannah starter, Logan Taylor, pitching 8.2 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, 1 BB, and struck out 4. Dawrin Frias faced 1 batter in the 9th and recorded the final out of the game. Taylor is 1-3 with the win.
Leading off the 8th inning for Savannah, Patrick Biondi,lf doubled and scored from second base on a wild pitch. After two outs, Dominic Smith,dh  walked. Matt Oberste,1b followed with a double  to score Smith. Victor Cruzado,rf doubled to score Oberste. Nelfi Zapata,3b singled to score Cruzado.
The announced attendance was 1,886.

Savannah Sand Gnats 4 Asheville Tourists 1

Game three of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won 4-1 and won 2 out of 3 games for the series.
Asheville scored their run in the 2nd inning. Emerson Jimenez,ss singled, stole second, moved to 3rd on a ground out and scored on a single by Cesar Galvez,2b.
In the 4th inning, Savannah scored a run when Yeixon Ruiz,ss tripled and scored when Dominic Smith,1b grounded out.
Savannah scored a run in the 5th inning. Stefon Sabol,lf walked. Jonathan Johnson,2b  singled and the center fielder made a fielding error, allowing Sabol to score.
The Sand Gnats scored their final 2 runs in the 6th inning. With runners on first and third, catcher Jeff Glenn reaches first on a fielding error by the shortstop and 2runs scored.
In his second start for Savannah, Octavio Acosta, allowed only 1 run in 8 innings, gave up 5 hits, walked 3 and struck out 2. It was his first win pitching for Savannah.Reliever Akeel Morris pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning, striking out 2. Morris earned his 14 save of the season.
The announced attendance was 1,488.
Savannah plays the Greenville Drive in a four game series with the first game starting at 7:05pm Thursday at Grayson Stadium.

Asheville Tourists 3 Savannah Sand Gnats 2

Game two of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Asheville rallied in the 8th inning to score 3 runs to edge Savannah 3-2. The Tourist outhit the Gnats 8-2.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning. Catcher Colton Plaia led off with a double. Back to back walks to Jonathan Johnson,2b and Patrick Bondi,lf loaded the bases. A sac fly scored Plaia. A single by Champ Stuart,cf scored the second run.
In the 8th inning, Asheville hit 2 doubles and 2 singles to score 3 runs. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Ramiel Tapia,cf doubled to score 2 runs. With the bases loaded, Gnat reliever, Akeel Morris entered the game and induced a ground out at third base, but a run scored which turned out to be the winning run.
It was a solid pitching performance by Savannah starter, Robert Whalen who pitched 7 scoreless innings and then the Tourists bats erupted for 3 runs. Asheville leads the league in team batting  with a .292 average.

Savannah Sand Gnats 4 Asheville Tourists 3

The Asheville Tourists came to Savannah to play a 3 game series on Monday leading the Gnats by 4 games in the  standings.
With the score tied 3-3 going into the bottom of the 10th inning, Savannah scored a run to win the game and cut Ashveille's lead to 3 games.
Asheville got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the first inning. Lead off hitter, Ramiel Tapia,cf singled followed by a home run over the left field fence by second baseman Zach Osborne, his 2nd of the season.
Savannah scored a run in the 2nd inning. Jorge Rivero singled, and on the next play, went to third  on a fielding error by the first baseman  and scored on a single by catcher, Colton Plaia.
In the 3rd inning Savannah tied the score at 2-2 on a solo home run by Yeixon Ruiz,ss over the left field fence, his 4th of the season.
Asheville took a 3-2 lead in the 7th inning when Dillon Thomas,lf tripled and scored on a sac fly.
Savannah tied the score in the 9th inning on an RBI single by Victor Cruzado,rf.
Leading off the 10th inning for the Sand Gnats, Ruiz triples to right-center field, and scores the winning run on a sac fly by Champ Stuart,cf.

Gnats sweep double header Wednesday

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs played a double header Wednesday  at Grayson Stadium. Savannah won both games 2-0 and 5-3.
In the first game Charleston outhit Savannah 4-2 but lost 2-0.
Leading off the first inning for Savannah, Yeixon Ruiz,ss doubled and went to third on a ground out and scored on a ground out.
In the 6th inning, Savannah scored when Dominic Smith,1b doubled and went to third on a ground out double play. A wild pitch  allowed Smith to score.
Starting pitcher for the Sand Gnats, Robert Whalen, improved his record to7-0 with the win, pitched 5.1 shutout innings, allowed 4 hits, walked 3 and struck out 3. Reliever Akeel Morris was outstanding, pitched 1.2 innings faceing 5 batters recorded a fly out and struck out 4. Morris earned his 13th save this year.

Game Two: Charleston scored a run in the first inning. Shortstop Abiata Avelino reached base on a fielding error by the pitcher. Tyler Wade walked. Avelino scored on a single by Michael O'Neill,lf.
Savannah scored a run in the 4th inning when Matt Oberste,dh singled and scored on a double by Nelfi Zapata,3b.
Charleston took a 2-1 lead when they scored a run in the 5th inning.
Savannah scored in the 5th inning on Stafon Sabol's two run home run, a line drive over the left field fence, his 7th of the season.
The RiverDogs tied the score at 3-3 when they scored in the 6th inning. Brandon Thomas,cf doubled and scored on a double by Yeicok Calderon,rf.
In the 7th inning for Savannah, catcher Jeff Glenn led off with a single and was replaced by pinch runner, Victor Cruzado. After several tries to sacrifice bunt, on a 2-2 count, Sabol laced a line drive home run over the left field fence giving the Sand Gnats a 5-3 win.
Savannah starter, Octavio Acosta, just transferred from Brooklyn, pitched 5 innings, allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 3 and struck out 7. Reliever Dawrin Frias pitched 2 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, and struck out 4. With the win, Frias is 5-1.
The announced attendance was 1,309.

Gnats split double header with Charleston

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs played a double header Tuesday at Grayson Stadium.
Charleston won the first game 6-2 and Savannah won the second game 1-0.
In the first game Charleston scored a run in the second inning. Miguel Andujar,3b led off with a double, went to third when Mike Ford,1b singled, and scored on a sac fly by Michael O'Neill,3b.
The RiverDogs scored a run in the 4th inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Savannah scored a run in the 4th inning. Champ Stuart,cf singled and went to second on a ground out. Matt Oberste,dh singled advancing Stuart to third. A ground out scored Stuart.
In the 6th inning, Savannah tied the score at 2-2 when Oberste hit a line drive over the left field fence for his 8th home run of the season.
Charleston rallied in the 7th inning scoring 4 runs on a walk, 2 doubles and a triple.
Sand Gnats had 3 hits for the game. Oberste was 2-for-3.

In game two, Savannah starter, Miller Diaz, was masterful pitching a complete 7 inning shutout, allowed 3 hits, walked 2, and struck out 5. With the win, Diaz is 6-1 and he lowered his ERA to 2.14.
Savannah scored in the 6th inning. Oberste singled and went to second on a single by Nelfi Zapata3b. A ground our forced Oberste out at third. A single by catcher Colton Plaia scored Zapata.
The announced attendance was 1,022.
The teams play a double header tomorrow starting at 5:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah Sand Gnats 1 Hickory Crawdads 0

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was played Sunday afternoon in front of 902 fans at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw excellent pitching from both teams and an exciting finish as Savannah scored a run in the 8th inning to edge Hickory 1-0.
Savannah starter, John Gant, was supurb, pitching 7 shutout innings, allowed only 1 hit, walked two and struck out 8. The only hit Gant allowed was an infield hit in the 7th inning by left fielder, Jario Beras.
In the 8th inning for Savannah, catcher Colton Plaia led off with a single and was replaced by pinch-runner, Victor Cruzado. Stefan Sabol,lf moved Cruzado to second with a sacrifice bunt. A ground out moved Cruzado to third. Champ Stuart,cf singled on a ground ball to the shortstop to score Cruzado.
Reliever Brett Mitchell entered the game for Savannah in the 8th inning and struck out the side. In the 9th, Mitchell gave up a single and recorded an out on a sac bunt and was replaced by Akeem Morris. After walking his first batter, Morris struck out the next two batters to end the game. Morris earned his 12th save of the season.
Getting two hits each for the Sand Gnats,  Jon Leroux,dh was  2-for-3 with a triple and Plaia was 2-for-3.
With the win, Mitchell is (2-0).
Savannah and the Charleston RiverDogs play a four game series. The teams play a double header Monday starting at 5:35pm at Grayson Stadium.

Gnats Sweep Hickory Saturday

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads played a double header Saturday at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won both games 5-2 and 8-0.
In game one, Hickory scored a run in the 2nd inning. Catcher Kellin Deglan walked followed by a single by Travis Demeritte,2b. Ronald Guzman1b singled to score Deglan. Hickory added their final run in the 5th inning.
Savannah scored 5 runs in the 4th inning. Victor Cruzado,rf singled and went to second on a single by Patrick Biondi,lf. While Biondi was stealing second base, a throwing error by the catcher  allowed Cruzado to score. Jonathan Johnson,2b walked.  A sac bunt by Yeixon  Ruiz,ss drove in Biondi. Champ Stuart,cf walked. A ground out scored Johnson. Matt Oberste,dh drove in two runs with a single.
Savannah starting pitcher, Ricky Knapp, pitched 5.1 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, walked 3 and struck out 6. With the win he improved to (5-6). Reliever Akeel Morris earned his 11th save, pitched 1.2 innings, allowed  no runs, and no hits, 1BB and struck out 1.
In the second game, Savannah starter, Robert Gsellman pitched a complete game, 7 inning shutout, allowed 6 hits, 1 BB, and 5 strikeouts. He lowered his ERA to 2.45 and improved his record to 9-5
In the 2nd inning, Savannah scored 4 runs. Cruzado walked and went to third when Jon Leroux,dh reached on a fielding error by the right fielded. Jorge Rivero,2b walked to load the bases. A double by catcher Colton Plaia scored three runs. Plaia scored on a single by Ruiz. The Sand Gnats scored 3 runs in the 4th inning and added their final run in the 5th inning.
Leading hitter for Savannah Saturday, Ruiz was 3-for-7with 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's.

Hickory Crawdads 10 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Hickory Crawdads was played in front of 3,049 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Hickory out hit Savannah 12 to 4 and won 10-1.
It was an outstanding performance by Hickory second baseman, Travis Demeritte, who was 3-for-5, with 2 home runs, 5 RBI's, and scored 3 runs.
Hickory got off to a quick start scoring 2 runs in the first inning. Evan Van Hossier, lf singled and scored on a double by Zach Cone,cf. A single by Jairo Beras,rf scored Cone.
A solo home run in the 2nd inning by Demeritte over the left field fence gave Hickory a 3-0 lead. It was home run number 22 for Demeritte.
Savannah scored their only run in the 3rd inning. Shortstop Yeixon Ruiz reached first base on a bunt, stole second, and scored on a single by Champ Stuart,cf.
With the bases loaded in the 5th inning for Hickory, catcher Kellin Deglan walked allowing a run to score.
The Crawdads scored 3 runs in the 8th inning and 3 runs in the nineth inning, highlighted by  a 3 run home run over the left field fence by Demeritte, his 23rd of the year which leads the SAL.
Leading hitter for Savannah, Ruiz was 2-for-4, with a run scored.

Gnats win double header 5-0 and 3-1

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Ledgends played a double header Sunday at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won both games 5-0 and 3-1.
In game one, starting Savannah pitcher, John Michael Gant pitching a complete game, was almost perfect allowing only 1 hit which came in the 6th inning, walking 1 and striking out 8 in the 7 inning game. With the shutout win, Gant is now 10-5.
Savannah bats were hot as they scored 3 runs in the 3rd inning on 5 hits. Second baseman Jonathan Johnson reached first on a fielding error by the first baseman, went to second on a pass ball, and scored on Yexion Ruiz,ss line drive home run over the left field fence, his second homer this year. Champ Stuart,cf singled followed by a single by Dominic Smith,1b. Matt Oberste,dh singled and Stuart was thrown out at the plate trying to score. A double by Nelfi Zapata,3b drove in Johnson to make the score 3-0.
In the 5th inning, Savannah scored 2 runs. Ruiz led off with a bunt single. Stuart reached base on an error by the second baseman. Smith singled to drive in 2 runs.
Sand Gnats had 11 hits for the game. Smith was 3-for-3 with 2RBI's and a run scored.

In the second game Savannah scored a run in the first inning.Patrick Biondi,lf led off with a single and advanced to second on a ground out and scored on a single by Matt Oberste,dh.

In the 4th inning, Sand Gnats scored a run. Dominic Smith walked. Cole Frenzel,3b walked. Jorge Rivero2b singled to load the bases. A sac fly by Victor Cruzado,rf scored Smith.
For Lexington in the 5th inning, first baseman,Fred Ford hit a home run over the left field fence for the Legends only run. It was the 8th home run of the season for Ford. 
Savannah scored a run in the 5th inning.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis, pitched 6 innings, allowed only 1 run on 5 hits, 0BB, and struck out 2. He improved his record to 3-2 with the win. Reliever, Akeel Morris pitched the 7th inning struck out 1and walked 1 to earn his 9th save.
Matt Oberste hit safely in both games to extend his hitting streak to 20 games.

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Lexington Ledgends was played in front of 2,847 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah starter, Robert Gsellman, was sharp with good control, pitching 6.2 innings, allowed only 1 run on 6 hits, walked 1 batter and struck out 10. It was his birthday and he improved his record to 8-4 with the win.
Savannah out hit Lexington 12-8 and won 5-1.
It was a good start of the second inning for Savannah, as 3 concetuive singles by Nelfi Zapata,3b Jorge Rivero,2b, and Victor Cruzado,rf loaded the bases. Back to back sacrifice flies by catcher Colton Plaia and Patrick Biondi,lf scored 2 runs.
Lexington scored their run in the 3rd inning. Frank Schwindel,1b walked, advanced to second on a single by Mauricio Ramos,3b and scored on a single by Elier Hernandes,cf.
In the 3rd inning for Savannah, Zapata doubled and scored on a single by Rivero.
Savannah scored their 4th run in the 4th inning when Biondi reached first on a bunt, went to second on a sac bunt, and scored on a hit by Champ Stuart,cf.
The final run for Savannah was scored in the 8th inning.
Five Sand Gnat players had 2 hits each. First baseman Matt Overste  singled in the 5th to extend his hitting streak to 18 games.

The rubber- game of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 942 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Charleston pitchers limited Savannah to 4 hits for the game and won 5-0 to win 2 out of 3 games.
In the 2nd inning, Charleston sent 9 batters to the plate, and scored 4 runs on 5 hits.Leading off the inning, Mike Ford,1b hit a home run over the right field fence, his 10th of the year. Miguel Andujar,3b walked and stole second. Michael O'Neill,lf doubled. A sac fly by catcher Eduardo DeOleo scored Andujar. Brandon Thomas,cf singled to score O'Neill.  Mark Payton,rf singled to score Thomas.
Charleston scored a run in the 4th inning. DeOleo singled and stole second and scored when Payton doubled.
Sand Gnat second baseman, Jonathan Johnson was 1-for1 with two walks.

The second game of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played Saturday in front of 2,764 fans at Grayson Stadium.
Both teams had 8 hits and Charleston won 4-1. Savannah committed 4 errors and left 12 men on base. Sand Gnats were 1-10 with runners in scoring position.
TheRiverDogs got off to a quick start scoring 2 runs in the first inning. Tyler Wade,ss singled, stole second base, and scored on a double by Mike Ford,1b. A fielding error by Savannah second baseman, Jorge Rivero allowed Ford to score on a ground ball single to second base by Miguel Andujar,3b.
In the 3rd inning for Charleston, Dustin Fowler,rf doubled and scored on a fielding error by the Savannah shortstop, Yeixon Ruiz.
Savannah scored their lone run in the 3rd inning. Ruiz reached first base on a fielders choice and went to second on a
wild pitch. A single by Champ Stewart,cf scored Ruiz.
With the bases loaded in the 4th inning for Charleston, Ford walked and a run scored.
For the Sand Gnats, Stewart was 2-for-5 with 1RBI and he raised his average to .302. Matt Oberste,dh doubled in the 2nd inning to extend his hitting streak to 14 games.

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 1,934 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won a rain shortened 4-1 decision in 7 innings over Charleston. Rain started in the top of the 5th and continued until the game was delayed before the top of the 8th inning.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Ricky Knapp was sharp,  pitching 7 innings, allowed only 1 run on 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 4. With the win, Knapp is 4-5.
Savannah scored three runs in the 2nd inning. Leading off the inning, Matt Oberste,dh was hit by a pitch. Cole Frenzel,3b singled. A ground out advanced runners to second and third. Catcher Colton Plaia singled to score 2 runs. Yeixon Ruiz,ss singled,  stole second  and scored when Jonathan Johnson,2b singled. 
Charleston scored a run in the 5th inning on a home run over the left field fence by catcher, Edurado DeOleo, his 10th home run of the season.
In the 3rd inning for Savannah, Champ Stuart,cf walked and stole second. Dominic Smith,1b hit a deep fly ball to center field which was caught by the center fielder Dustin Fowler and Stuart scored from second base.
For the Sand Gnats, Frenzel was 3-for-3. Oberste extended his hitting streak to 13 straight games,

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJacket was played in front of 1,543 fans Wednesday at Grayson Stadium.
Augusta out hit Savannah 10-5 and won 7-1.
In the third inning, Augusta scored 3 runs. Tyler Horan,rf led off the inning with a home run over the right-center field fence, his 12th of the year. Jeremy  Sy,2b walked and stole second base. Eric Sim,dh hit a home run over the left field fence his 3rd home run of the season to give Augusta a 3-0 lead.
Leading off the 3rd inning for Augusta, Chris Lofton,cf  singled and scored when catcher Tyler Ross doubled.
The only run scored for Savannah occurred in the 3rd inning. Victor Cruzado,rf walked and went to second on a wild pitch. Catcher Jeff Glenn walked. Patrick Biondi,cf singled to load the bases. A ground out by shortstop Yeixon Ruiz scored Cruzado.
Augusta added a run in the 6th inning and 2 runs in the 8th inning.
For Savannah, Cole Frenzel,3b was 1-for-3 with a double. Matt Oberste,dh singled in the 8th inning to extend his hitting streak to 12 straight games.

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 1,476 fans Tuesday morning at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah was trying for a record of 12 straight wins but came up short and lost to Augusta 6-4.
Leading off the second inning for Augusta, Tyler Horan,cf doubled followed by a single by Jeremy Sy,dh. Both runners scored on a double by catcher Eric Sim. Craig Massoni,lf drove in Sim with a single.
Savannah scored a run in the 4th inning when Nelfi Zapata,3b led off with a double and scored on a double by Stefan Sabol,lf.
In the 5th inning, Savannah scored 3 runs. Dominic Smith,1b doubled. Matt Oberste hit a single. Victor Cruzado,rf doubled to score Smith and Oberste. Zapata doubled and the third run of the inning scored.
Augusta tied the score at 4-4 in the 6th inning. Sy doubled and scored on a single by Sim
A walk to Sy and a home run over the left field fence by Ryan Jones,2b gave Augusta a 6-4 lead in the 9th inning. It was the first home run for Jones this season.
Leading hitter for Savannah, Oberste was 2-for-4 with a run scored. He has extended his hitting streak to 11 games.

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played Monday evening in front of 2,669 fans at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah  beat Augusta 6-1 to win their 11th  game in a row.
Savannah starter, John Gant, was sharpe with excellent control. He pitched 8 innings allowed only 1 run on 5 hits, struck out 10 and did not walk a batter. Gant improved his record to 9-4 with the win and lowered his ERA to 2.64
Augusta scored their only run in the 1st inning. Lead off batter, Chris Lofton, cf singled, stole second and scored on a single by Tyler Horan,rf.
In the 4th inning, Savannah scored 3 runs. Yeixon Ruiz,ss walked. Dominic Smith,1b singled. Matt Oberste,dh doubled to drive in 1run. Two runs scored when Jorge Rivero,2b reached base on a fielders choice and a throwing error by the second baseman, Jeremy Sy allowed Rivero to go to second base.
Savannah scored 3 runs in the 8th inning. Both Smith and Oberste reached base on singles. Cole Frenzel, 1b was intentionally walked to load the bases.  Rivero, singled to drive in Smith. With the bases loaded, Victor Cruzado,rf walked scoring Oberste. A ground  out by Stefan Sabol,lf scored Frenzel.
Sand Gnats had 9 hits for the game. Oberste was 3-for-4 with an RBI and he improved his batting average to .319. Smith was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and raised his average to .296.

Savannah Sand Gnats defeated the Hickory Crawdads 8-2 Sunday to sweep the three game series and extend their winning streak to 10 games. Matt Oberste continued his hot hitting as he was 2-for-4 with a home run, his 4th home run of the season. He is currently batting .308.

Savannah Sand Gnats 10 Charleston RiverDogs 5

The final game of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played Thursday in front of  4,014  fans at Grayson Stadium. The game was sold-out.
The Sand Gnats banged out 15 hits and beat Charleston 10-5 sweeping the series, and winning their 7th game in a row.
Savannah starter, Alex Panteliodis gave up 7 hits, but allowed only 1(unearned) run in 7 innings of work, walked 2 and struck out 4. With win he improved his record to 2-1 and lowered his ERA to 2.88.
Charleston scored their first run in the  1st inning and scored 4 runs in the 9th, highlighted by a 3 run home run over the left field fence by center fielder Michael O'Neill, his 8th this season.
Savannah scored their first run in the 1st inning when Champ Stewart reached first base on a bunt single and scored when the next batter, Dominic Smith,1b doubled. 
Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the 2nd, 1 in the 5th and 1 in the 6th.
With the bases loaded in the 7th inning for Savannah, second baseman ,Jonathan Johnson doubled driving in 3 runs.
In the 8th inning, Savannah scored 2runs.
Leading hitters for Savannah, Johnson was 2-for-2 with 2 walks, a single , double and 4 RBI's. Cole Frenzel,3b was 3-for-5 with a run scored and 2 RBI's.

Savannah beat Charleston 7-4 and have won 6 games in a row.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, John Gant set a career high in strikeouts with 10, pitched 7 innings, allowed 4 runs on 6 hits. With the win he is 8-4.
In the first inning, Savannah scored two runs. Champ Stuart,cf singled as did  Matt Oberste,1b. A walk to Cole Frenzel,3b loaded the bases. Stuart and Oberste scored on ground outs.
Charleston tied the game at 2-2 in the 3rd inning. Michael O'Neil doubled and the following batter, Dustin Flower,cf hit a home run over the right field fense, his 6th of the season.
Savannah scored two runs in the 5th inning. Catcher Colton Palia doubled and scored when Stuart hit a line drive over the left field fense, his second home run this year.
The final two runs for Charleston were scored in the 6th inning to tie the score at 4-4.
Savannah scored a run in the 6th, 7th, and 8th innings and lead 7-4 which was the final score.
The hitting star for Savannah was Stuart who was 2-for-3 with a home run, 2RBI's, 2 runs scored and a stolen base

Game one of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 876 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw an exciting and strange finish to the 3:54 hour game. With Charleston leading 8-6, Savannah won the game in the 9th inning. Two Gnats on base scored on throwing errors by the shortstop and the right fielder. Then with the bases loaded, Victor Cruzado,rf walked on four pitches and the winning run scored. It was the 5th straight win for Savannah.
Savannah scored their first run in the first inning when Champ Stuart,cf tripled and scored on a ground out.
In the second inning for Savannah, Jorge Rivero,2b walked and Cruzado hit a home run over the left field fence, his 5th of the season.
Charleston scored in their third inning when Michael O'Neil,cf doubled, went to third on a ground out and scored on a sac fly. The RiverDogs scored 3runs in the 4th inning and 1run in the 5th inning.
Going into the 9th inning, Charleston trailed 6-5 and scored 3 runs to take the lead, 8-6. A home run over the right field fence by Gosuke Katoh,2b scored 3 runs, it was his 3rd home run of the year. The 3 runs were scored off Sand Gnat reliever, Akeel Morris, pitching the 9th inning. Morris won the game and is 4-0.
For Savannah, Cruzado was 2-for-4 with a run scored and 3 RBI's. Dominic Smith,1b was 4-for-4.

The final game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,737 fans Monday at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won 8-1 to complete the four game sweep.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Dario Alvarez, pitched 5 shutout innings, allowing only 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 8. With the win Alvarez is 5-0 and he lowered his ERA to 0.96.
In the first inning, Savannah scored a run. Yeixon Ruiz,ss singled and went to second when Champ Stuart,cf walked. A ground out double play advanced Ruiz to third and he scored on a balk.
Sand Gnats scored 2 runs in the 4th inning and 2 runs in the 5th inning.
The lone run for Rome was scored in the 7th inning when Connor Oliver,rf doubled and scored on a double by Keith Curcio,cf.
Savannah answered with 2 runs in their 7th inning. Dominic Smith,1b doubled followed by a home run over the left field fence by Matt Oberste, his second home run in his last 2 games.

Savannah Sand Gnats 15 Rome Braves 12

Game three of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 1,188 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw plenty of hitting and runs scored Sunday afternoon with Savannah winning 15-12. Sand Gnats had 17 hits and Braves had 14 hits.
Rome got off to a fast start in the first inning scoring 5 runs on 1 hit, 3 walks, and 2 hit batsmen.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the bottom of the first. Champ Stuart,cf doubled and scored on a single by Dominic Smith,1b. A double by Cole Frenzel,3b scored Smith.
Savannah scored single runs in the second and third innings, and scored 2 runs in the 4th inning to tie the score at 6-6.
In the 5th inning, Savannah erupted for 8 runs, highlited by a double and a grand slam home run by Matt Oberste,dh, his first home run of the season.
Sand Gnats scored a single run in the 7th inning.
Rome rallied in their 9th inning, getting 5 hits and 2walks to score 6 runs.
Hitting stars for Savannah. Oberste was 4-for-4  with a double, home run, 3 runs scored and drove in 6 runs. Stuart was 4-for-4, drove in 1 run, 2 doubles, and 4 runs scored.

Game two of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,332 fans Saturday at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw a great game and an exciting finish with Rome tying the game at 3-3 in their 9th inning and Savannah scoring in the bottom of the 9th to win 4-3.
Rome took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Gerald Chin,2b reached first on an infield hit and scored when Connor Oliver,cf doubled. The switch hitting catcher, Victor Caratini, singled to drive in Chin.
Savannah scored three runs in the 5th inning. Matt Oberste,dh singled and went to second on a wild pitch. Cole Frenzel,3b singled. Jorge Rivero,2b drove in the first run with a single. Yeixon Ruiz,ss singled to drive in 2runs.
In the 9th inning, Rome scored a run to tie the game at 3-3
Leading off the 9th inning for Savannah, Champ Stuart,cf walked. The next better, Dominic Smith,1b reached first base on a perfectly executed drag bunt between the pitcher and first baseman. Oberste advanced both runners with a sac bunt. Frenzel was intentionally walked to load the bases. Rivero laced a line drive to center  field to drive in Stuart with the winning run.

Game one of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,158 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah won 4-2 as Alex Panteliodis went 7.2 innings for Savannah allowed only 3 hits and 2 runs (both unearned),to win and even his record at 1-1.
In the first inning, Savannah scored when lead off hitter Champ Stuart,cf walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored when Dominic Smith,1b doubled.
Rome tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning and scored a run in the 3rd inning to lead Savannah 2-1.
With two outs in the 4th inning, Sand Gnats scored two runs. Yeixon Ruiz,ss singled and went to third on a double by Jonathan Johnson,2b. Both runners scored on a single by Stuart.
The final Savannah run was scored in the 8th inning when Jorge Rivero,3b singled and scored on a double by catcher Colton Plaia.
Reliever Akeel Morris picked up his 6th save of the season pitching the 9th inning and striking out 2 batters.

The final game of the series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 1,678 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium.
Augusta managed 5 hits and Savannah was held to 3 hits. GreenJackets won 4-2. Savannah committed 4 errors. Augusta's four runs were unearned.
Leading off the game for Augusta, Chris Lofton,cf singled, stole second and went to third when the throw to nab Lofton at second by Gnat catcher,Colton Plaia went into centerfield for a throwing error. Lofton later scored on an infield single by Brandon Bednar,dh.
With the bases loaded in the 7th inning, via 2 walks and a single, a single by Tyler Horan,rf drove in 2 runs. Augusta added their final run in the 8th inning.
In Savannah's 7th inning, a  double by Gavin Cecchini,ss scored Stefan Sabol,lf and Cecchini came home on an error.

Augusta GreenJackets 5 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

The third game of the six game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Augusta GreenJackets was played in front of 2,438 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Augusta outhit Savannah 12-7 and won 5-1.
In the second inning, Augusta scored their first run when Tyler Ross,dh singled and scored on a double by John Polonius,ss.
Augusta scored three runs in the 6th inning. Three consecutive singles loaded the bases and Savannah starter, Alex Panteliodis left the game and reliever Dawrin Frias intered the game striking out the first batter, then walked 3 consecutive batters and three runs scored.
The final GreenJacket run scored in the 7th inning on a home run over the right-center field fence by Tyler Horan,rf his 7th of the season and second in the three games.
Savannah scored their only run of the game in the 4th inning on a home run over the right field fence by Jon Leroux,dh  his 1st of the year.

Asheville Tourists 12 Savannah Sand Gnats 6

Game three of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played in front of 3,008  fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Asheville entered the game with a team batting average of .284, banged out 17 hits and won 12-6. The Tourists won 2 of 3. Savannah has a 5 game lead over second-place Asheville.
Leading off the game for Asheville, David Dahl,rf walked and later would score on a double by first baseman, Jordan Patterson.
Asheville sent 11 batters to the plate in the 3rd inning, scoring 7 runs on 7 hits.
Savannah scored their first run in the 3rd inning when Stefan Sabol,lf led off the inning with a walk. Back to back singles by catcher Colton Plaia and Patrick Biondi,rf loaded the bases. A sac fly by shortstop Gavin Cecchini scored Sabol.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the 5th inning.
The Tourists scored 2 runs in the 7th inning and Savannah scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th, highlited by a 2 run home run over the left field fence by Plaia, his second this year.
The final run for Asheville was scored in the 8th inning when Dahl led off with a triple and scored on a sac fly by center fielder,Ramiel Tapia.

Savannah Sand Gnats 3 Asheville Tourists 2

Game two of the three game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Asheville Tourists was played in front of 1,397  fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Savannah edged Asheville 3-2 to even the series at 1-1.
Savannah starter, Kevin McGowan, did not allow a hit until 2 outs in the 5th inning- he went 8.1 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits and struck out 3. Reliever, Akeel Morris, faced two batters in the 9th and induced two groundouts to earn his second save this season. Both pitchers have been selected to  the All-Star team.
Sand Gnats got off to a quick start scoring two runs in the first inning. Shortstop Gavin Cecchini drew a walk and went to third when the next batter, Jeff McNeil,3b doubled. Both runners scored when L.J. Mazzilli's,dh chopper to third, resulted in a throwing error by the third baseman, Ryan McMahon.
Asheville scored in the 6th inning. Shortstop Emerson Jimenez doubled and moved to third on a bunt single by David Dahl,cf. A ground out scored Jimenez.
Savannah scored their third run of the game in the 8th inning. Mazzilli reached first on a fielding error by the first baseman, Correlle Prime.  Mazzilli advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored when Jorge Rivero,2b singled. 
In the 9th inning, Asheville scored when Galvez singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Galvez stole third base and scored on a ground out.

Ashville Tourists 2 Savannah Sand Gnats 1

Game one of the three game series between the first place Savannah Sand Gnats and the second-place Ashville Tourists was played in front of 2,736 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Fans saw excellant pitching by both starters. Sand Gnat starter, Chris Flexen, pitched 7 strong innings, allowed only 1 run on 3 hits, walked 1 and struck out 10. He had a no hitter through 5 innings.
Ashville scored a run in the 6th inning. Max White,lf singled, advanced to second on a sac bunt. White stole third base and scored when David Dahl,cf singled.
Savannah scored their lone run in the 7th inning. Victor Cruzado,rf doubled and moved to third on a wild pitch. Stefan Sabol,dh singled to score Cruzado.
In the 10th inning, the Tourists scored a run when White singled and scored on a triple by shortstop Emerson Jimenez.
Savannah threatened in the 10th with one out and back to back singles by Jeff McNeil,3b and L.J. Mazzilli2b, but could not score.
