Savannah 4 Kannapolis 2

The final game of the four game series between the  Savannah Sand Gnats and the Kannapolis Intimidators was played in front of 2,014 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium. Both teams scored a run in the second inning and Savannah rallied to score 3 runs in the 8th inning.  Kannapolis added a run in their 9th inning, but fell short as the Sand Gnats won 4-2 and won 3 games out of 4 games played.
Savannah scored their run in the 2nd when Greg Pron singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. A single by Charlie Thurber scored Pron.
In the 8th inning, Cam Maron and Dustin Lawley received walks and both runners advanced on a sac bunt by Greg Pron. An intentional walk was given to Cole Frenzel.  A single by Matt Reynolds scored 2 runs and a sac fly by Thurber scored a run.
Savannah starting pitcher Alex Panteliodis was outstanding, pitching 7 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, 1BB, and struck out 9. Pitching the 8th inning, Randy Fontanez, allowed 1 hit, no runs and won the game to improve his record to (2-4). Closer T. J. Chism allowed 1 run on 1 hit, and struck out 1. Chism earned his 16 save of the season.j

Savannah 6 Kannapolis 2

Game three of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Kannapolis Intimidators was played in front of 1,867 fans Wednesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Both teams collected 11 hits, but strong Savannah pitching shut out the Intimidators for 7 innings-they scored 2 runs in the 8th inning. Savannah won 6-2.
Players getting multiple hits for Savannah:Cole Frenzel was 3-for-3, with 2 doubles and 2 runs scored, Dustin Lawley was 2-for-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored, and Greg Pron went 2-for-4.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Michael Fulmer was superb, pitched 5 shut out innings, allowed 3 hits, 1BB, and struck out 8. Reliever Marco Camarena pitched 2 shutout innings, gave up 3 hits and struck out 1. Esterlin Morel pitched 1 /3 of an inning, allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits, and struck out 1. Chasen Bradford earned his second save of the season pitched 1 1/3 shut out innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 3.
The final game of the four game series will be played Thursday evening at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 8 Kannapolis 1

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Kannapolis Intimidators was played in front of 812 fans Tuesday evening at Grayson Stadium. Savannah pitchers allowed only 1 run and the Sand Gnats banged out 10 hits , 3 of which were home runs.
Savannah scored 2 runs in the 3rd when Gilbert Gomez singled and was followed by a home run over the right field fence by Cam Maron, his 4th homer of the year.
Leading off the 6th inning for Savannah, Dustin Lawley hit a home run over the left field fence, his 12th home run of the year.
Savannah rallied in the 7th inning to score 5 runs, high lighted  by Lawley's 3 run home run, a drive over the left field fence for home run number 13.
Starting pitcher for Savannah, Jacob DeGrom,  was solid pitching 6 strong innings, allowed 1 run on 6 hits, 1BB and striking out 9. With the win, DeGrom is  now( 6-3).  Picking up his first save of the season, Carlos Vazquez, pitched 3 shutout innings, allowed 1 hit, 2BB, and struck out 3.
Game three of the four game series will be played Wednesday evening at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Kannapolis 6 Savannah 3

Game one of the four game series between the Kannapolis Intimidators and the Savannah Sand Gnats was played in front of 2,208 fans Monday evening at Grayson Stadium. Kannapolis scored 2 runs in the 5th, 3 runs in the 8th and 1 run in the 9th on  a Martin Medina home run, his 2nd of the season. Final score Kannapolis 6 Savannah 3.
Sand Gants scored a run in the 1st inning when Gilbert Gomez doubled and scored on a single by Dustin Lawley. In the 4th inning, Dustin Lawley hit a home run, his 11th of the season. The final Savannah run was scored in the 6th: Lawley walked, went to second on a ground out, moved to third on a balk, and scored on a sac fly to right field.
For the game, Savannah had 4 hits. Gomez was 2-for-3 with a run scored. Lawley was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Logan Verrett, pitched 7 innings, allowed 2 runs(both unearned) on 3 hits, and struck out 6. Randy Fontanez pitched 1 inning, gave up 3  runs, on 4 hits, and struck out 1. Jared    
West pitched the 9th inning, allowed 1 run on 2 hits.
Game two of the four game series will be played Tuesday evening at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 5 Rome 1

The fourth game of the four game series was played between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves in front of 914 fans Sunday afternoon at Grayson Stadium. Both teams had 6 hits apiece and Savannah won the game 5-1 to even the series at 2-2.
Once again Savannah pitching was superb. Starter Domingo Tapia pitched 7 strong innings in the brutal afternoon heat and did not allow his only hit until the 7th, gave up 1 run(unearned), walked 2 and struck out 8. Reliver Marco Camarena pitched 1 inning, gave up 3 hits and struck out 1. Closer T. J. Chism allowed 2 hits in the 9th inning, walked 1 and struck out 2. With the win, Tapia improved his record to (5-2).
In the first inning, Savannah scored 3 runs. Gilbert Gomez was hit by a pitch, Dustin Lawley drew walk, and a hit by Grey Pron scored Gomez. A double by Cole Frenzel drove in two runs. Sand Gnats scored two more runs in the 5th inning.
Monday Savannah begins a four game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators at 7:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 7 Rome 0

The third game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 3,077 fans Saturday evening at Grayson Stadium. Strong Savannah pitching limited Rome to 2 hits for the game and Savannah won the game 7-0.
Starting Savannah pitcher Jimmy Fuller was stellar pitching 6 shut out innings and allowed only 1 hit, walked 2 and struck out 4. His curve ball baffled the Rome hitters and he won the game and improved his record to (3-2).
For the game , Savannah collected 13 hits. Getting 2 hits each for the game:Gilbert Gomez, Cam Maron, Brian Harrison, and Charley Thurber. Almost getting the cycle, Dustin Lawley was 3-for-5, starting out with a triple, double and a single. His last at bat last night was a home run so he did have a cycle in the last  two games combined.
Allowing the second hit of the game for Rome, reliever Carlos Vasquez, was equally effective, pitching 2 innings and struck out 2. . Pitching the 9th inning, Chasen Bradford faced 3 batters and struck out 1.
The final game of the four game series will be played Sunday afternoon at 2:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Rome 3 Savannah 2

Game two of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,093 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Rome scored single  runs in the 1st, 5th, and 7th innings to win the game 3-2.
Savannah scored two runs in the 8th inning. Cam Maron reached first base on an error and scored when Dustin Lawley hit a line drive over the left field fence for a home run, his 10th of the season.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis, pitched 6 innings, allowed 2 runs on 6 hits, 1BB, and struck out 10, took the loss  and his record is now(3-5). Reliever Jared West pitched 2 innings, allowed 1 run on 2 hits, 1BB and struck out 4. Estarlin Morel faced 3 batters in the 9th and struck out 1.
Game three of the four game series will be played Saturday at 6:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Rome 2 Savannah 1

The first game of the four game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Rome Braves was played in front of 2,642 fans Thursday evening at Grayson Stadium.
Rome won the game 2-1 and their pitchers allowed Savannah 2 hits for the game.
Starting pitcher for Rome, Alex Wood, pitched a shutout allowing no hits for 4 innings, walked 1 and struck out 2.
Sand Gnat starting pitcher Michael Fulmer, pitched well for 6 innings, allowed 1 run(earned) on 4 hits, walked 2 and struck out 7.
Savannah scored their run in the 5th inning. Greg Pron led off the inning with a double. Albert Cordero walked and Cole Frenzel was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Pron scored on a ground out. Peter Moylan, who was pitching on a rehab assignment from the Atlanta Braves, pitched the 5th inning for Rome.
Losing pitcher for Savannah, Randy Fontanez(L, 1-3) pitched 3 innings, allowed 1 run on 2 hits, walked 1 and struck out 4.
Game two of the series will be played Friday evening at 7:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Edgin Joins Mets

It has been reported that former Savannah Sand Gnats pitcher, Josh Edgin, has been promoted from Buffalo(AAA) to the New York Mets Friday, July 13, 2012.
During the 2011 Sand Gnat Season, Edgin was outstanding, appeared in 24  games, pitched 31 innings, walked 10 and struck out 41. His record was 1-0 and his ERA was 0.87. When Edgin entered the game from the bull pen, he threw strikes and got hitters out.

Charleston 8 Savannah 4

The final game of the five game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RuverDogs was played Sunday afternoon in front of 805 fans at Grayson Stadium.
After 9 innings the score was 4-4 and Charleston rallied in the 13 inning scoring 4 runs to win the game 8-4.
In the Savannah 8th inning, Aderline Rodriquez hit a home run with a runner on base to tie the score at 4-4. It was the 16th home run for Rodriquez and his 3rd home run against Charleston in the five game series. The Sand Gnats had 6 hits for the game and Dustin Lawley was 3-for-5 with a double and 2 singles and a run scored.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Domingo Tapia, pitched 7 innings, allowed 4 runs on 5 hits, walked 1 and struck out 3. Carlos Vasquez pitched 1 2/3 shutout innings, gave up 2 hits, 1BB, and struck out 3. Chasen Bradford, pitched 2 1/3 shutout innings, 0BB, no walks or strikeouts. Losing pitcher, Jared West (1-2) pitched the final innings, allowed 4 runs(3 earned) 4 hits, 1BB and struck out 3.

Sand Gnats Split Double Header with Charleston

The Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs played a double header Saturday at Grayson Stadium. Charleston won the first game 9-7 and Savannah won the second game 1-0.
The second game was an exciting game as Savannah starting pitcher,Jimmy Fuller, was brilliant tossing a no hit shut out for 5 innings, striking out 4 and walking one batter. He improved his record to (2-1) with the win. Earning his 14th save of the season, T. J. Chism, was equally as impressive, pitched the final two innings, allowed 2 hits, 0BB and struck out 1. Savannah scored the winning run in the 4th inning when Cam Maron laid down a perfect bunt down the third base side for a hit and he scored when the next batter, Aderline Rorriquez with 2 strikes choked up on the bat and laced a double. Rodriquez was 2-for-3.
The first game saw Charleston score 9 runs on 12 hits, while Savannah scored 7 runs on 8 hits. For Charleston Dante Bichette, Jr. was 2-for-3 with a home run and 2 runs scored and 3 RBI's. For Savannah Dustin Lawley hit his 9th home run of the season and Brian Harrison was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and drove in 2 runs. Starting Savannah pitcher, Alex Panteliodis pitched 3 innings, allowed 1 run on 3 hits, walked 4 and struck out 1. Reliever Marco Camarena pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowed 5 runs(4 earned)  on 5 hits, walked 2 and struck out 1. Loosing pitcher Randy Fontanez((1-2)  went 1 2/3 innings gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, 1BB, struck out 3.
The announced attendance was 2,028.
The final game of the series is Sunday at 2:05pm at Grayson Stadium.

Savannah 1 Charleston 0

Game two of  the five game series between the Savannah Sand Gnats and the Charleston RiverDogs was played in front of 1,796 fans Friday evening at Grayson Stadium. Fans saw outstanding pitching and great defense from both teams. Both teams had 3 hits for the game. The RiverDogs turned 3 double plays and the Sand Gnats turned 2 double plays.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, Aderline Rodriquez, led off the inning for Savannah and hit a line drive over the left field fence to win the game 1-0. It was his 15th home run for the season and he hit a home run in the first game of the series on July 4th.
Starting Savannah pitcher, Michael Fulmer was superb pitching 7 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits, 0BB, and struck out 4. Chasen Bradford pitched 2 shutout innings, allowed 1 hit and struck out 1. Winning the game, T. J. Chism (2-2), pitched the 10th inning and struck out 2.
Saturday the Sand Gnats and RiverDogs play a double header starting at 5:05 pm at Grayson Stadium.

Charleston 3 Savannah 2

The Savannah Sand Gnats hosted the Charleston RiverDogs Wednesday July 4th in the first game of a five game series in front of a large crowd 4,180 fans at Grayson Stadium. The Sand Gnats hit two solo home runs and had good pitching,  but lost the game 3-2.
In the 3rd inning, Charleston collected 3 hits and capitalized  on an error to score 2 runs. They added a run in the 4th inning.
Savannah scored their first run in the 2nd inning on a solo home run over the left field fence by Aderline Rodriquez, his 14th homer of the year which leads the team. In the 5th inning, Cam Maron hit a towering blast over the right center field fence, his 3rd home run this season.
Savannah starting pitcher, Jacob DeGrom, took the loss(3-3) pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed 6 hits, gave up 3 runs(2 earned), 0BB, and struck out 6. Reliever  Randy Fontanez, pitched 3 1/3 shutout innings, allowed 2 hits, 1BB and struck out 3.
Game two of  the series will be played Thursday evening starting  at 7:05pm at Grayson Stadium.
